Oh, that smirk. He’s still a little shit.
I hold the phone as high as I can above us and snap another picture.
“You wish I was. Probably want me to cat fight for you.”
Lachlan groans and buries his face in my neck. I take that picture too. They’ll probably torture me soon enough when he isn’t here.
“You fighting for me. Naked. In jello.”
“How would a fight start in jello?”
“I’ll have a pool ready.”
He has an answer for everything.”
“You’re a horny pig, you know that?”
“My girl’s told me a time or two.”
My girl.
It twists and blooms in my chest, making tears bead against the back of my eyes. I so badly want to be his forever girl but no matter which way I look at the problem, the solution is always the same.
We are in the wrong place and time for anything long term.
He has four years of college for his bachelors, plus whatever training and work experience he needs to do to join the FBI. Yeah, a guy I’m sleeping with wants to be a Federal Agent.
He has his life set on a whole different path and I’ve just uprooted my old life for a new start.
He’s young, with the beginning of his partying college life ahead of him and I’m at the stage in my life I want to be settled down.
Marriage, kids, mundane and wonderful. I want it all.
I’m telling him the truth about being worried that Riley will still out me.
I was a teen girl once.
I know how those first feelings of love hurt.
And being rejected in the way Lachlan has rejected her, will make any girl turn to the dark side of revenge.
I’m not armed for that kind of life.
Lachlan has made my life a million times more excitable just by his presence, but it isn’t me, not really. Not long term.
I switch lanes, just to stop my heart from thinking of the inevitable.
His thumb works on the top of my arm, stroking softly.
This time it’s Lachlan who takes my phone, lifting it out so much further than my little arms and he kisses the side of my neck, snapping a picture.
“Will the FBI know about your extra-curricular money-making schemes?”
He chuckles like I’m silly and crazy. “The Bishop will retire before I graduate college, baby.”
“Why Bishop, by the way? It sounds like it has a meaning.”
“You’d think so, right? It’s become synonymous to the myth of this guy who can hack anything. Which is true.” He boasts, sexily. God, his brain is attractive. “I hear kids at school talking about him like he’s this urban legend. Funny shit. When in reality, the name was just my old screen name for online gaming during middle school.B15H0P.”
