“Okay, sure.” Maybe we are going a little too fast. “But I want to kiss you again…”

“I don’t know whether I can resist another one of your kisses.”

I laugh, flattered and not at all disappointed. There’s no need to rush things, to have everything all at once. Sean is here, at my family’s house. We’ll be spending three days together; we have all the time in the world.

“How about this? I’m going to have a shower, probably a cold one, while you relax and pour yourself another drink. There’s a well-stocked bar in the living room.”

“You’re going to have a shower?” he asks, almost panicking.

“Is that a problem?”

“God, help me.”

I laugh and shake my head.

“I definitely need that drink, then.” He gets up and heads into the living room.

“I’m going to…” I say from behind him.

“I’ll stay here, at a safe distance.” He pours himself a glass of whiskey, neat, and apparently double, then sinks onto the sofa.

“Okay. Give me five minutes and I’ll join you.”

He lifts his glass in my direction and I let him gather his thoughts for a few minutes as I take a shower, hopefully a freezing one. I need to cool off my instincts, the desire taking control of my body.

I get undressed slowly, letting my clothes drop to the bathroom floor and sliding open the shower door. I turn on the water, wait a few seconds, and step one foot inside. I close the door behind me and let the water course down my back; my hands are resting against the wall, my head lowered, my mind filled with thoughts of him, his mouth, what I want to do to it and what I want him to do to me. I feel as if I’ve taken a step in the wrong direction, as if I’m at risk of losing everything, of running off before this whole absurd situation is over.

The shower door opens and I jump. Sean is standing in front of me, totally naked.

“What are you…?”

“Please,” he says, interrupting me. “Just don’t break my heart. Okay?”

“I’ll do my best.”

Sean nods, then smiles.

“You have nice eyes, you know.”

“I’m standing here naked and you’re seriously talking about my eyes?”

I laugh. “It’s the first time I’ve seen you up close without your glasses. I’d never looked at them properly before.”

“Do you want to keep talking about my eyes, or…?”

“Your eyes can wait.” I let my own eyes trail over him slowly, holding my breath as they climb hungrily back to his face. “Come here.”

Sean closes the door behind him and steps towards me. The heat of his body melds with the steam from the warm water. I let my hands slide up his arms and onto his shoulders, then take his face between my hands and bring him close to me.

Sean sighs heavily into my mouth.

“I’m a little… Er… Out of practice,” he admits.

“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything.”

I brush my mouth against his and Sean melts into my body.

“I’m not.”
