“I’m going to go out the side door,” I whispered, gesturing in the opposite direction of the front door.
“He won’t say anything,” Tyler assured me with a smile.
“Not a chance in hell,” I said, shaking my head. “I’m mortified beyond words.”
“Why?” he chuckled, earning him a soft jab to the ribs and a frown. “Sorry. I’m just trying to make you feel better.”
“I’ll never feel better about your brother’s first time seeing me was on your lap with no pants.”
“He won’t bring it up, Melinda. I promise.”
“Doesn’t matter. It’s the fact that it happened,” I leaned my head against his forehead and sighed. He rubbed my back.
“Well, eventually, I want the two of you to meet. Clothed of course,” he gave me a boyish grin.
Despite myself, I wanted to laugh. Not because of me being embarrassed was funny, but because Tyler was trying to ease my mind with humor.
A for effort, Sir,I mused to myself, keeping a straight face.
“Ugh. I hate you.” I turned on my heels and made my way across the living room to grab the cleaning caddy so I could make my exit.
“Melinda,” Tyler groaned. His arms wrapped around my waist. He kissed the side of my head. “I’m just teasing. Don’t be mad. Please. I’m sorry.”
“Mmhmm.” My head remained forward to hide my smile.
“Babe, I’m sorry,” he kissed the side of my head again. “I’m sorry for teasing you.”
“Mmhmm.”
“Melinda, please,” he turned me around to face him. He looked down at me. His depressed look disappeared and his eyebrow rose. “You’re smiling?”
“Mmhmm,” I said more playfully.
“So you aren’t upset about my brother?”
“Oh. I am,” I let out a heavy sigh. “However, it’s not your brother’s fault that I was caught with my pants down.”
“But I don’t want that awkwardness between the two of you.”
“I’m sure I’ll get over it in time.” I looked up at him and smiled. “Are you okay with giving me some time?”
“I think that’s fair,” he smiled and kissed me softly. “Let me walkmy girlfriendout to her car and then I’ll go to the front to deal with my brother.”
A smile instantly broke across my face at the wordsmy girlfriend. It was like Christmas Day and I was finally able to open the biggest and best present.
I quickly bent down and grabbed the cleaning caddy in an attempt to hide my cheesy smile. Tyler chuckled behind me. I stood up tall with my back still to him. My smile never faltered. It was so big that my cheeks were beginning to hurt.
“Hiding? Tyler laughed.
“No,” I shook my head. “Just have to get going.”
“Uh-huh. Right,” he wrapped his arms around my waist and leaned his chin on my shoulder. “You’re cute when you blush.”
He kissed me on the cheek then took the caddy from my hand.
“I can carry that,” I said, attempting to grab it back.
“Don’t think so,” he laughed and held the caddy well-over my head.
