“Happy because?” he prompted.

“Happy because you are willing to look past social norms to be with me.”

“There are people who get together in less time. If you think about it.”

“True, but I don’t think it’s a client-maid situation,” I muttered.

“Is that what’s really bothering you?” he frowned. “Who cares if you’re a maid? You’re doing an honorable thing by helping your mom. If people think less of you, then they’ll have to go through me.”

“You’re sexy when you’re pissed off,” I laughed. He rolled his eyes and wrapped his arms around me.

“I just don’t like you talking down on yourself or the job, Melinda.”

“I don’t mind the job, honestly,” I whispered. “I just know that it isn’t a job people go to college for or a job that will make millions of dollars so most people don’t want to do it. They think it makes them less of a person.”

“Well, I’m not them and I don’t keep shallow people in my company so you won’t have to worry about that,” Tyler smiled. “So… that brings us back to you being my girlfriend or not?”

“Hmm…” I playfully tapped my chin. He rolled his eyes and chuckled.

“If you keep this up, I’m going to punish you and I don’t care if my brother sees or not,” he grinned cockily.

“Tyler!” I swatted at him and giggled. “None of that.”

“Then tell me. Are you going to end my suffering and be my girlfriend or do I need to punish you for making me wait for an answer?”

“Yes.”

“Yes, you want a punishment?”

I shook my head and looked up at him.

“Yes, I’ll be your girlfriend.”

“Yes?”he asked softly. It was almost as though he didn’t believe me.

“Yes,” I nodded.

“Yes!” he shouted picking me up.

Laughter erupted as he swung me around in circles like I was a little kid. My heart felt full at that moment. Judging by the huge smile on Tyler’s face, he felt pretty happy too.

Ding! Dong!

“Oh for crying out loud!” Tyler growled, making me laugh. He set me back down on my feet. “I’m going to kill him.”

“Now. Now. None of that,” I giggled and kissed him gently. “I need to leave anyway.”

“But you’d stay longer if he wasn’t here being annoying.”

I laughed and shook my head.

“No. Regardless, I need to get going,” I waved my finger at him. “So be nice to your brother, mister.”

“Fine. Since you told me too,” he smirked. “Let me walk you out and then I’ll deal with him.”

The thought of seeing Jax again made me want to run for the hills. The man had seen me half-naked sitting on Tyler’s lap. One hell of a first impression.
