He turned around and walked over to me. “How is ya girl?”
“She’s straight,” I said before looking around the room. Our table was set, and there were roses on the floor and everything. “To what do I owe such pleasure?”
“Damn, I can’t just do shit because?” he asked, pulling me into him. He gazed down at me as a smile crept onto his handsome face.
“I guess you can. It’s nice.” He leaned down, and I pecked his lips.
“Good, but first let me ask you something.”
Before I knew it, he was on one knee in front of me, and I felt the waterworks about to start. When I finally looked into his eyes, he had that same goofy ass smile.
“I’ve loved yo’ ass before I even knew what it was, Love. Even when I didn’t know how to say it, you taught me your language. You didn’t require me to say it or even buy it. You just wanted me to be here. You’re all I want for the rest of my life, Love. Will you marry me?”
Before he could even finish his sentence, I was nodding my head up and down. I’d marry this man over and over if I could, because in my most unsure moments, he was my anchor. He kept me sane and understood me when no one could.
“Good, because I wasn’t taking no for an answer.” He stood up and pressed his full lips against mine.
Chapter 11
MAZZ - THE NEXT DAY
“I’m not feeling well. Can you pick Mel from school today? Kasair dropped her off this morning,” Mecca asked.
“Cool, you good? You need something?” I asked. I was already on my way to her crib. It wasn’t like Mecca to feel sick or any of that shit.
“Nah. I’m okay. Why are you up so early?” she asked, being her usual nosy self.
“I tried to catch Gayze and talk to her, but she’s in surgery, or that’s what she has those bitch ass nurses telling me.” I shook my head and rested back in my seat.
“Oh, Lord.” She sighed. “What did you do?”
“I fucked up.” I shook my head because I did. I had one moment of weakness, and that shit blew up in my face.
“Like how?Fuckedupfucked up, or just slight miscommunication fucked up?” she asked.
“Fucked all the way up, like she blocked me and is avoiding me at every turn,” I responded before turning my car on and pulling from the parking spot.
“Mazzier! What the fuck? You had exactly one job, and the fact that Kasair’s hot ass can be faithful longer than you says a?—”
“Aye, don’t put me in that shit. He fucked up, not me,” I heard Kasair say loudly. “But you need to fix that. I fuck with the fact that we have a doctor in the family.”
I talked to her and this nutty ass nigga the whole way to her crib. As soon as I walked in the door, she was sitting on the sofa while Kasair was sitting at the countertop eating what looked like Lucky Charms.
“Mel know you the one keep eating her fucking cereal?” I asked with a smirk on my face.
“Hell nah. Errtime I buy her a new box, I blame it on Mecca.”
I laughed and walked over, taking a seat across from Mecca. Her eyes were boring into her phone before she looked up and at me. “What did you do?”
“Yeah, what the fuck did you do so we can figure out how we’re gonna fix it,” Kasair asked.
I busted up laughing like the shit was funny, when in reality, it was nowhere near. Nothing prepared me for seeing the expression on her face when she spotted me in my office with Honey. Nothing from that night was planned. It happened on a whim. “She caught me after I handled something with Honey. I was?—”
“You dirty dog. She should’ve stabbed your ass and put Honey on the back of a milk carton.” Mecca pointed at me with her face screwed up. “I swear if Kasair wo?—”
“Whoa now, Mecca. Don’t put me in that shit. You already be punishing a nigga when you have dreams. Fuck I look like actually fucking up?” Kasair walked into the room shaking his head before taking a seat.
I shook my head.
