But he’s not Superman and if he isn’t cold yet, he will be soon. I turn the dress shirt sideways and wiggle back against him so it can at least cover some of his body.

“You don’t have to do that,” he says, burying his face in my neck. Every breath from his nose tickles the fine hair at my nape.

“It’s okay. Your shirt can fit us both.”

“Can it?” he asks lazily.

“Yeah. See?” I unfold it and marvel at the breadth of the shoulders and the length of the sleeves. “It’s a good thing you’re big.”

I freeze the moment the words leave my lips.

Although I can’t see him, I canfeelZane’s smile against my skin.

I groan. “Don’t?—”

“That’s what she said,” he teases lightly. Twisting his head, he presses a kiss to my ear. “The ‘she’ in question being my wife.”

My chest pulls tight when he calls me that. “I’m your wife.”

“That’s right.” He nuzzles his nose into my shoulder.

“And you’re my husband.”

“Not sure if you’ve noticed, but it’s been that way for a while,” Zane says with a yawn.

“It feels like we just started dating.”

“I’ll make sure you feel that way even when your hair is grey and your teeth are falling out,” he promises.

I laugh softly. “You think you’ll have this much stamina when your teeth are falling out?”

“I might have my teeth for longer. Iamsix years younger than you.”

I groan. “Don’t remind me.”

“As long as you don’t say ‘thank you’ like you’re paying me for the service, I’ll do what I have to do in our nursing home bedroom.”

I snort-laugh.

Zane joins me.

I twist around to watch the night view, and something digs into the underside of my neck. Curious, I dip my fingers into his shirt pocket. My breath stills when I see the silver chain with both our wedding rings looped in it.

“Did you carry this around with you?” I gasp.

“Every day.”

My eyes find his. “Even that night at the club? With those girls?”

Panic tightens his lips. “Nothing happened that night. It’s no excuse, I know. I drank too much and took that video like an idiot. I even got into a fight. Got my butt kicked too. Finn and Sol had to scrape me off the pavement and take me home.”

“Why did you get into a fight?” I arch both eyebrows.

“Because a girl tried to get me to leave with her.”

“And why didn’t you?”

He looks me right in the eyes as if he wants me to see his sincerity. “She wasn’t you.”
