My heart flips. I lean over to kiss him when both our phones start ringing.

Zane hands me my phone.

We both check our messages.

“It’s Dutch,” Zane says, showing me the message.

“It’s…” I stare at the thousands of notifications. “The world. Wow. That’s a lot of new followers.”

“You are now, officially, married to a member of The Kings,” he points to himself.

“Eh.” I make a so-so gesture.

“And you blew up the reputation ofthegovernor of our entire state.”

“Huh.” I pause. “I guess I did.”

Zane laughs, kisses me on the forehead. “Come on. Let’s go home.”

He helps me find all my clothes. Well, all except for one of my shoes. Then, my husband kneels in front of me, laces up his giant loafers on my feet and helps me on his bike.

He’s the one who rides—barefoot—all the way back home.

“You were amazing on that interview,” Sol says.

Finn dips his chin in silent agreement.

Cadence is sitting behind the counter, swinging her legs and watching Dutch while he cuts a sandwich for Viola.

I turn to her. “Any word from Jarod Cross?”

“He hasn’t said anything to us. Finn?”

Finn shrugs. “Even if he wanted to text me, he’s blocked.”

Sol laughs. “I wish I’d seen your dad’s face in person. Finn told me how you swept that dirt on Micheals right from under him.”

“He’s not going to be happy,” Dutch grunts as he sets a plate in front of Viola. “We should prepare for what’s coming.”

“What’s coming?” Viola asks, taking a big chomp.

Cadence pats her on the shoulder. “Go eat in the living room. This conversation doesn’t involve you.”

Viola huffs. “You always keep me out of everything.”

“There are some things little ears shouldn’t hear,” Sol says, swiping the knife off the counter and sliding his thumb along the razor-sharp edge of it.

Viola rolls her eyes. “Are youtryingto look scary? Because you’re not fooling anyone.”

Sol sticks his tongue out at her.

Viola does the same.

Footsteps thump down the stairs.
