Tam immediately dropped to his knees and carefully stroked, as if he didn’t want to hurt Gemini.
“You can be a fluffy beauty and still be a fierce beast. I didn’t mean to make you feel otherwise.”
Frost was blown away by everyone’s obvious ability to read their minds.
“Some of us can’t help it. Everyone’s thoughts are loud to us, especially humans.”
That sounded horrible. “So I am human?”
Jonathan motioned toward a nearby settee. “Please?”
Frost headed for the empty spot where Jonathan had indicated. Gemini wasn’t as quick to follow. It seemed getting pets outweighed his safety.
“I swear you’ll be totally protected while you’re with us, and I apologize for dragging you here like this. It’s not safe for me to issue a formal invitation with Lucifer hanging around. But I also didn’t want to leave you floundering after last night.”
“I appreciate that. Yesterday, I didn’t know any of this existed, and now I’m getting pulled through mirrors. At least, I don’t think I knew this existed.” Frost shook his head. “Everything has kind of overwhelmed me at once.”
Jonathan nodded, as if he fully understood. “It was the same for me. One day, I thought I was a human journalist. The next, it was like a full set of encyclopedias was uploaded to my brain. I knew so much all at once that I’m still surprised when I know something new. Celeste sends her apologies for having to do that. Last night was an emergency. No one had time to stop and explain.”
“Who is Celeste? Everyone keeps saying her name.”
“Goddess Celeste is who humans call God.”
Frost snapped his fingers and laughed. “I knew God was a woman.”
Jonathan smiled. “She liked that one.”
Frost eyed Jonathan. “So, you have a direct open line at all times? Kind of like the way I hear Gemini?”
Jonathan dipped his chin. “I’m her grandson.”
That explained the glow.
Jonathan motioned toward the blond on his right. “This is my mate, Cin.” He motioned to his left. “This is my mate, Niall.”
“You can have more than one mate?”
All three men laughed at his open outrage. Niall was the one who answered. “Aye, but it’s only reserved for the most blessed of Celeste’s creations, and you would know already if you had two. You don’t have to worry your mate will be walking along someday and suddenly bring home a second.”
Thank heavens for that. Frost didn’t like to share.
Jonathan moved on with the introductions. “You’ve met Faolan and his mate, Lire.”
He definitely had not met a Lire.
A mist formed around Faolan, and a second man appeared. His eyes were ever shifting, refusing to land on a color. “Lire.” He smiled. Chills ran down Frost’s spine.
Jonathan moved along. A blond in a kilt that matched Faolan’s flanked the other side of Lire. He looked like an honorable warrior. Frost couldn’t explain that thought. He simply looked like someone Frost would be proud to have watching his back. “This is Faolan’s other mate, Dougal.”
Jonathan paused for a moment and focused on Dougal. “This is the first time I’ve ever introduced you to anyone where there were no thoughts given to your beauty.”
Dougal looked Frost’s way. “Thank you for that.”
Frost had no idea why it mattered so much, but he didn’t miss the relief in Dougal’s voice. He motioned over his shoulder. “I’m mated to that one. He’s pretty fucking gorgeous.”
He heard Gemini’s satisfied purr.
The men smiled and rumbled their pride, as if Gemini’s reaction showed he was a good mate.
