Jonathan motioned in Gemini’s direction. “The guy who can’t resist anything furry is my brother, Tam.”
With a nod, Frost hoped to move things along. “It’s nice to meet all of you. Why—”
“I can make you clothes if you want to sit with your man.”
Tam’s claim cut through Frost’s question. In an instant, Gemini was fully dressed and joining him on the couch.
“Bloody hell. He wasn’t lying about this one’s looks.”
Frost bit back a smile at Dougal’s grumbled words and the several nods of agreement. He opened his mouth to get back to business.
Tam bounced to Gemini’s side. “Wow. Weres heal much too fast for all this ink. The pain had to be unbearable to retain these.” His hands swept down Gemini’s arm. “Oh. They’re magic. Protection spells. They were done by someone extremely powerful. I’ve never had to be so close to magic to feel it.” He continued fingering various tattoos. “Your mom was right to take you to a mage. You’re married to a healer. He’s much too important to lose, and he wouldn’t choose to stay if anything happened to you. It’s in his head.”
Frost had so many questions, and no one seemed to be in a hurry to give him any answers. But one of Tam’s revelations hit him harder than the rest. “Married?”
Gemini winced. His fingers linked with Frost’s. “It’s really starting to feel like every one of our special moments is gettingripped away from us. I don’t guess I’ll get to have a single fucking conversation with you before someone else ruins it.”
Tam winced. “I can make you both forget.”
A man appeared. His gorgeous dark skin seemed to reflect the light. He swept Tam off his feet. “Come on, baby. I need to hold my mate, and they have business.”
Tam immediately snuggled deep into the arms of who was obviously his mate. “Okay. It was nice to meet you. Thank you for letting me pet you.”
“You were petting someone?” The deep growl to the question made Frost smile. At least he wasn’t the only jealous one here. Tam obviously wasn’t afraid. He rambled happily about getting to pet a snow leopard as his mate carried him from the room.
The moment he was gone, Jonathan jumped in, as if worried they would get interrupted again. “Healers used to be common among packs all over the world. Obviously, while our kind can heal quickly, sometimes it isn’t fast enough. In times of war, healers were especially needed. Since our world has been at peace for so long, minus the occasional demon uprising, healers have somewhat died out or sort of gone into hibernation.”
“Peace? This world has never been at peace. There’s always a war.”
“Those are human wars. The human world isn’t your world any longer. I know that’s hard to wrap your mind around. But thefaster you do, the easier things will be because shit could very well be getting real soon in your neck of the woods with Lucifer roaming your town.”
Gemini sat forward. “Why is he taking the unclaimed mates?”
That was the second time Gemini had made that claim, and Frost was confused.
Jonathan exchanged glances with his men. They spoke as if Gemini and he weren’t there. “That’s not a good sign. I can’t see Lucifer. Even outside of Hell, the darkness cloaks him, but I can likely see these missing mates. Finding them might give us more insight.”
They exchanged nods before Jonathan focused on them again. “Something huge is likely about to happen very soon. If it does, we have no idea how it’ll change the world, but your bunch will be closest in proximity. Unfortunately, this is something I can’t change and has been a long time coming. It can no longer be postponed, or more of your people will likely vanish.” Jonathan shook his head. “I know I’m being vague, but having the entirety of this knowledge might lead you to try to intervene, and that would be even more disastrous. Either way, Wulfe’s pack needs you to keep them safe. I sent two guards to stay in your town and keep watch.”
The idiot Vikings.
Frost covered his mouth to hide his smile. Gemini would never forgive that abduction.
“They are brave warriors,” Niall said, cutting in. “They are old, skilled, and stout of heart, and you still see what Lucifer did simply because being followed by them annoyed him. Imagine what he could do to your town if angered.”
That didn’t sound ominous at all.
Jonathan leaned forward and touched his arm. Warmth crawled up Frost’s arm and settled in his chest, calming him. “The wolf gene missed you, but magic didn’t. It’s strong in your blood. Embrace it.”And forgive your mate for not explaining being mated is bigger than marriage, but the human world will view you as husbands. Just as you knew nothing of mates before yesterday, he has always been a Were. He doesn’t understand the concept of marriage. To him, that’s a human thing and humans are fleeting. Their customs are as well. Mating is for eternity, and you will never die.
Frost nodded. He wondered how much of that Gemini caught.
Jonathan smiled.I’m very powerful. This conservation is between us.
“How powerful?” Frost had to know. He couldn’t look away from Jonathan. His light came from the heavens, and this was as close as Frost would ever come to seeing that place.
“I could snap my fingers and end any world of my choosing.”
Damn. That was a hell of a responsibility. One Frost didn’t envy.
