Page 82 of Rescue Us

Everything and everyone was pissing me off. So before I did or said something I regretted, I decided I needed to fight off the aggression. When I was leaving the clubhouse, the hairs on the back of my neck tingled. I looked around me, finding Sammy leaning against the brick wall, puffing on a smoke.

“Where are you going?” he asked.

“Out,” was all I said.

“Figured that much, brother.”

My jaw clenched.

Things hadn’t been well between us either ever since I ignored his phone call the last time I was at Ainsley’s. Apparently, taking care of a woman who had a nightmare wasn’t a good enough a reason for him.

“You going to see Mouse?” he asked, flicking the smoke to the ground.

“No. I’m going to The Ring.” I needed a good fight. Although, it probably wouldn’t help my mood, I just needed to hurt while I figured out how to fix things with Ainsley. Especially since I hadn’t heard from her since the Friday before.

“Trouble in paradise already?” Sammy chuckled.

My head whipped around. “Careful, brother. You’re treading on very dangerous ground at the moment.”

He pushed away from the wall and stalked toward me. “Am I really? You told me to get my head out of my ass when it comes to Red. Seems to me like you should do the same when it comes to Ainsley.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I spun on my heel, heading toward my bike.

“No?” Sammy followed me, much to my dismay of course. “You’ve been moping around here for the past week. What happened?”

“None of your business,” I grumbled, not liking the fact that he was pushing me.

“None of my business,” he repeated, chuckling. “You know, Cyrus, if you like this woman as much as I think you do, you should fight for her.”

I stopped, slowly looking over my shoulder at my twin. “Thought you didn’t like her?”

He scowled. “I never once said that.”

I grunted. “Could have fooled me. Even she thinks you don’t like her, Sammy.”

“I don’t give a shit if she thinks that or not. I’m not the one fucking her.”

“Why are you an asshole?”

“Because.” He shrugged. “It turns my girl on.”

Shaking my head, I continued heading to my bike when his next words stopped me.

“You sure you want someone as broken as her?” Sammy pulled a pack of smokes out of the inner pocket of his leather cut. “Piper said she’s pretty messed up.”

“Piper wouldn’t say that and also, you’re just as fucking broken. Just in a different way,” I told him.

“I’m fine.” And with that, he walked back toward the large house.

He was fine. Yeah, right.

Sammywasin fact broken. You didn’t need to be tortured, raped, and abused to be emotionally shattered. Something was up with my brother, but I could never get it out of him. Not even sure if Red could.

Straddling my bike, I pulled out my phone to send Ainsley a text. I was sick of this shit.

Me: I’m stopping by your place later. We need to talk.

Putting my phone away, a hard sigh left me when I felt it vibrate. I didn’t care if she didn’t want to see me. I was going over after heading to The Ring. She was going to listen to what I had to say because I couldn’t go on with the way things currently were.
