Me, too.Wyatt grinned and nodded.

We all did, Jay murmured. It's good to see him letting his hair down in front of people.

Jay, you don't make a lick of sense sometimes, Ash squawked. What does his hair have to do with anything?

Never mind!Jay growled.Goddess, no wonder I have to talk to myself! It's the only intelligent conversation I can get!

Before Ash could work his way through that one and roast him back, the noise of a motor grew louder and louder until Thoreau rode his dirt bike into the clearing. Firth, Ocean, and Spring followed in his wake with Spring trying to run along with dignity, but the pups weren't having it. They teased him until he lunged at them, which led to a high-speed chase around the clearing with excited yips and yelps as Thoreau drove the bike right up to us.

Shutting it off, he dismounted, ran straight to Posy, and ripped off his helmet.

"Luna! I'm going to be Lark's chauffeur!"

"Oh, boy!" She grabbed his hands and they started hopping around. "What's a chauffeur?"

"I don't know!"

"Me, either!"

"A chauffeur is someone who drives someone around," I explained with a broad grin at the pair of them. "Reau, show luna what's on your bike."

He nodded with excitement and took Posy's hand to lead her over to the bike. Between the handlebars and the seat was a small, padded box with a little harness attached to it.

"See? Lark will sit here and I will buckle her in. And look!" He reached into his shorts pocket with his free hand and pulled out something bright orange. "Special glasses to protect her eyes from rocks and wind!"

"Those are ski goggles, Reau." I rolled my eyes.

"Papa said they will work, alpha," he said with pure earnestness.

Jay came over and put his hand on the kid's shoulder.

"Reau, you'll be a good boy and take care of the luna, right? No wheelies or jumps or anything even a little dangerous, okay?"

"Of course, alpha." Thoreau nodded frantically. "I will always take care of luna."

"I know you will." Jay patted his head, and Thoreau hummed with contentment.

As pack members continued to arrive, Spring, Firth and Ocean trotted over to us with Chime Karma floating like a guardian angel above them. Thoreau dropped Posy's hand to pet the wolves and wave at the thunder dragon, who rumbled gently at the boy.

He's such a precious soul, Posy linked us.I only wish I could help him and Spring more.

Suddenly, a crystal-clear voice rang through the clearing, silencing everyone in it.

"And what would you sacrifice to make that wish come true, luna of Five Fangs? What price would you pay for their happiness?"

We couldn't move.

We couldn't speak.

We couldn't link.

No matter how much strength and magic and power we pushed out, we were contained by an invisible barrier and could only watch as a luminous being appeared in our midst, glimmering silvery white like a moonbeam.

When Posy, Thoreau, and Spring moved toward her as if on autopilot, Quartz somehow managed to break the spell that held us enough to roar out his displeasure.
