There was probably more to that story than she knew. There's always a reason why someone acted the way they did, and I wondered what his was.

Even if heismean, I'll help him if I can,I thought to myself as my eyes flicked to the blond boy standing next to him.Same with Bridger, although it sounds like what he needs is a firm hand to rein him in. Plus, I'll bet anything he never dealt with the grief of losing his family.

Despite my sympathy and compassion, I did not care for the way they talked to my friend. My understanding and willingness to help them did not give them permission to abuse anyone - or excuse them from facing consequences for their actions.

Before I could intervene, however, Bram did.

"You could have asked nicely, you know. You don't have to be meanallthe time. You'd be happier if you—"

"Shut your hole before I shut it for you," Elijah growled, his wolf underscoring his voice.

Yolanda squeaked and scurried out of the room, and I wondered if she was going to fetch a teacher. Jayden told me the football coach, who also taught car mechanics here, was one of the pack's warriors and was dominant and powerful enough to put down anyone, shifter or human, except for Tyler and Landry.

Maybe she went to get him?I asked myself. But then why didn't she just link him? Or Ty or Landry?

In fact, wherewasTyler? He was supposed to have this class with me.

"Here you are, mutt, getting involved in our business again," Bridger smirked as he towered over me and glared at Bram. "Sounds like he wants another beating, Eli."

I could feel the testosterone swirling through the room and knew a fight was brewing. I also knew Bram would get the worst of it if fists started flying. Not only was it two to one, but Bram was not into weightlifting and sports like Elijah and Bridger obviously were, and he was an omega to boot. His wolf was the least aggressive in the pack. Even ifBramwanted to fight, Smoke would submit.

As the words became more heated, I could feel the anger rolling off Bridger in waves. Elijah wasn't angry, or at least that's not what I sensed, but he was growing more aggressive. He reached over my head to grab a fistful of Bram's shirt, and my heartbeat immediately went into a sprint.

Luna?I heard Tyler in the link. What's wrong? I'm less than a minute away.

I couldn't answer, too stressed by Elijah's sudden nearness. Jumping to my feet, I ducked under his arm and moved away until I felt safe, then let loose my Ultimate Luna Voice.

"DOWN. NOW."

Unfortunately, I was too worked up to target anyone andallof them fell to their knees, Bram going boneless and pressing his forehead to the floor as Smoke fully submitted.

Of course, that's when our teacher - a forty-something human - chose to make his grand entrance, wiping his hands dry on a piece of brown paper towel that he crumpled up and shot into the trash can.

"Yes! Three-pointer!" He shot his arms in the arm, then looked over at our little drama. "Oh. Sorry to interrupt the worship of your queen. Should I genuflect, too?"

Before I could ask anyone the meaning of that odd word, he knelt and bent at the waist to stretch his arms out on the floor.

"Oh, mighty queen, both beautiful and dread, what is thy wish? We your servants obey your every command!"

And Tyler picked that moment to run into the room. His wolf-lit eyes went right to me.

You take River and I'll take Tyler, I told Lark as I pulled back my luna power and the shifters around me got to their feet.

Sure.

I'm fine,I linked my beta. Please calm down. Don't kill anyone.

You could have been hurt!

But I wasn't. I'm not in danger, and I handled it.Changing tactics, I added,It will ruin my first day of school if you get in trouble with the human teachers for fighting. Besides, you can easily take care of these two later, right?

Oh, you can be sure I will!he snarled. They're going to be doing suicides at practice today until they vomit. Then the real punishment will start!

Suicides? My eyes went wide until he linked me what that meant in football training, then I relaxed.

"Oh, Mr. Herron," Sophia giggled as she went over to the human teacher. "We were just trying a new Tik Tok challenge."

Reaching down, she grabbed his elbow and pulled him to his feet. He adjusted his glasses and frowned at her and Bram.
