Yes, sire,I muttered.
Why, Q?He nipped my ear to make sure I was listening. Why is Q the way Q is?
I don't know, sire.I shook my head with a heavy frown.I'm working on it.
Hmm.His voice went back to normal, and I knew we were good again.Race?
Stakes?I tilted my head in question.
Q loses, rides with Granite all the way to Tall Pines. Q wins, rides with Nyx.
Bet,I agreed with a fierce grin.
7: Talking it Out
Mason
I found Posy in her balcony garden, cuddled up in Tyler's lap as he rocked her on the wicker chair. Her arms were wrapped around her middle as if she were trying to hold herself together, and his chin rested on the top of her head while he stared into space.
I called his name in the beta link, and his eyes snapped to me.
Has she said anything?I asked.
No, alpha.
Thanks for staying with her. I know she trusts you a lot.
Anything for my luna.
"Go take a break," I murmured as I lifted our girl into my arms. "The other betas are with Ariel in the living room, but if you need to get yourself together in privacy, you're welcome to use one of the guest rooms."
"Thank you, alpha."
After he left, I carried Posy into her room and laid on the bed with her. Reaching over her head, I snagged Mr. Nibbles and handed him to her, and she buried her face in his belly.
"It's all right. Everyone is okay. You're okay." I pressed my lips to her forehead. "I'm here. I've got you."
Not knowing what else to do, I rubbed my hands up and down her back and kept telling her everything was fine now. After four or five minutes, she lifted her head out of Mr. Nibbles' fur and looked up at me with wide, tragic eyes.
"Wyatt?"
"He hit his head, and it knocked him out for a few minutes." I paused to check in and make sure I was telling her the truth. At Granite's reply, I nodded. "He's all right. Granite healed him, and he's cleaning up in the shower now."
"But there was so much blood! I thought he was— I thought Quartz had—"
"I swear, he's fine, baby. Head wounds bleed a lot because the skin is thin over the skull. The damage always looks much worse than it is."
"I want to see him. I want to see Wyatt."
"Of course. Do you mind giving him a minute to pull on a pair of boxers?"
I tried to lighten the mood and knew I shouldn't have when she only nodded with a serious face.
"I don't want them all hating each other over this," she whispered. "Both Wyatt and Quartz were wrong, and poor Jayden is caught in the middle. What do we do?"
By the moon, I wanted to maim my brothers for putting her through this.
And over what? A temper tantrum on Quartz's side and a dick move on Wyatt's. And to subjectPosy -gentle, sweetPosy- to either, let alone both, was inexcusable! I'm going to kick their asses so hard—
