What was that idiot thinking?I grumbled.He knows better!

We were washing off the blood and dirt in the mountain stream. The cold water helped me calm down, but not as much as the fight with Nyx had. It had been a long time since I was allowed to cut loose, and I rarely had an opponent on my level.

Granite and Wyatt must not know Quartz had control,Nyx suggested.

I shrugged and swatted a paw in the air, as if I could swat away such rational thought as easily as a fly.

Probably he didn't, but I told him to stop doing that just the other day! He interrupts each of us with her. All. The. Time.

A brat, he agreed.Granite a pup, Q.

He's only a year younger.I rolled my eyes.

Years don't matter.He grinned.Granite will be a pup forever.

I rammed my shoulder into his leg, and he rammed me back, knocking me over into a shallow pool.

Monstrous freak, I muttered as I got back up and knocked into him.

Snow white princess.

We tussled a bit more before we climbed out of the stream and shook out our fur. Of course, he made sure to hit me with the hundred pounds of water flying out of his massive coat, and I had to shake mine out all over again.

We should get back.I frowned, not looking forward to our return. The king is probably anxious to leave.

Jul will wait as long as needed.

Yeah, but I need time to make up with my love before we go.

Nyx tittered at me, and I told him to shut up.

As we turned toward home, my thoughts went to the fallout I would face when we got there. I knew Wyatt was physically fine - Cole and Mason had linked Jayden that much - but he wouldn't link with Jayden, who gave up after half a dozen attempts to talk to him.

Jayden blamed himself. He kept mumbling about how he should have linked everyone that I was ascendant, instead of just telling the only person who was in the room. Honestly, I didn't understand his guilt on this one, but that was how my boy rolled.

It's a good thing the Moon Goddess paired him with me,I said to myself. Everyone would walk all over him otherwise.

I wasn't too worried about Jayden and Wyatt. They would make up quickly because neither of them could stand to be on someone's bad side.

Granite, though? I'd hurt his feelings.

Actually, 'hurt' was an understatement.

He wasn't talking to me right now, but Topaz told me that Granite thought I was playing when I'd told him to stop interrupting others' special moments with Posy or Lark. I was big enough to admit that I deservedsomeof the blame for that misunderstanding. I shouldn't have blown a raspberry at him, as it gave him the wrong impression.

Still, I had no idea how to heal the wound I'd inflicted on his soft little heart today.

Even worse thanthatheadache was the dread boiling in my gut over how Posy was going to react.

Any ideas on how to approach my mate?I asked my best friend.

Posy soft-hearted, like Nyx's little mate. Posy will cry, and Q will hold and comfort and say sweet words and make promises.

She's going to be disappointed in me,I sighed.That will hurt worse than any angry words or shouting.
