I linked Mason to ask why. I could understand Quartz, because that was his default state, and Sid because of his love for pups. But what reason did Garnet have to be so angry?

Halder sent his wolves after the queen, which endangered you at the diner,Mason replied. Then he sent wolves to invade our pack, which endangered you on our run. Why wouldn't he be angry?

All right, Posy,Jayden linked before I could respond to Mason. Here's what I propose. Ty and Em do not leave your side. If Halder shows any sign of aggression, they will kill him on the spot. If the worst happens, you shift into Lark and run straight back to us. You will keep the link open with us the whole time. These terms are non-negotiable.

Thank you, dragon!

Just because I agreed doesn't mean the others will, he snorted.

I'm pretty sure you can sway them with your 'non-negotiable' terms,I said dryly.

The rest of my mates and the betas had calmed down enough for Jayden to get their attention. As he told them what we'd discussed, I stayed tucked in Mason's throat. I wrapped my arms around his neck, drew in deep breaths of his campfire scent, and kissed along his jaw.

He took in a deep breath, making me rise and fall with his broad chest. Feeling daring, I laid an open-mouth kiss on his mate mark and gently bit it.

"Posy,"he rumbled, and I felt him growing hard under my bum. "Don't think your kisses will influence my decision."

"Of course not."

With a secret smile, I kissed my way up to his earlobe, then sucked it into my mouth and swirled my tongue around it. He shifted me on his lap with a muffled groan, then lowered his head to whisper in my ear.

"Do that in bed tonight and see what happens."

Blushing heavily, I buried my face in the center of his chest, and he chuckled before rejoining the conversation around us.

A thought struck me and I considered the wisdom of it. Was the information I wanted worth the reaction I might get? Deciding it was, I nudged my link with Quartz.

He opened it right away.

I want to ask you a question about Leo Halder, and I'd like your answer to be as simple and straightforward as possible. Can you do that without losing your temper?

Yes,he said after a minute.For you.

When you were exorcizing the demon, what did you see inside Leo Halder?

He blinked, startled, and I wondered what he thought I was going to ask.

Fire. Blood. Darkness. Pain. And—

I waited as he wrestled with his conscience. He'd seen something that he didn't want to tell me, but I knew he would in the end.

Regret,he admitted.Despair. Hopelessness. Resignation.

When he fell silent, I gave him a sweet smile as thanks.

"I'm coming, too," I heard Angelo say in a gruff tone.

What's going on?I asked Lark, hoping she'd been paying more attention than I had.

They agree to Jayden's terms,Lark caught me up.Gelo wants to tag along.

"I don't need a hit man lurking around while I'm interrogating a prisoner." I raised my head and looked at him.

"You can'tinterrogateanyone, Luna Posy," King Julian teased with a grin. "You're too nice and soft tointerrogatesomeone."

"Interview then," I said with a shrug.

"Angelo will act as another guard, little luna bunny," Emerson explained, "not a hit man."
