“I really can’t. I gotta get back to work, Bambi. I’ll call if I need anything.”
Turning, I went back to work to finish my shift and go back to the prison I called a home.
Myshifthadfinallyended, and we locked up the diner, heading out into the parking lot. The other waitress left to go out front and I was walking to my car when I saw a lone figure leaning against it.
I knew exactly who it was, and he got my heart pumping. I took a deep breath as I moved closer to him. I needed to keep my cool around him. If he knew I had feelings for him too... anything between us would end in disaster. It just couldn’t happen...
“What do you want, Hawk?”
He smiled that fucking charming smile and looked deep into my soul with those baby blue eyes.
“Just making sure you get home safe, babe.”
“I don’t need you. Go home and leave me alone.”
I needed to stand my ground and get him to leave me alone. Lloyd would do anything to stop him from even looking at me. He looked at Hawk like competition and would never let him take his ‘possession.’ The thought made me want to puke; Lloyd didn’t even look at me like a person anymore.
Hawk uncrossed his arms and walked toward me. My heart beat faster as he stopped right in front of me. He looked down at me and ran his finger down my cheek. Goosebumps ran down my body, and I unconsciously moved into his touch.
“I think you need me, baby girl. You need me in theworstway.”
I pulled away and slapped his hand away from me. I was getting too close and putting us both in danger.
“Fuck you. I’m perfectly fine on my own.”
Hawk went from warm and sexy to cold and angry.
“Why do you stay with him, Savannah? He beats the shit out of you, treats you like shit, cheats on you every fucking night. Yet you stick around. What for? You deserve better than that.”
I shook my head. “Deserve a player like you?”
Hawk laughed. “You don’t know shit about me.”
“And you don’t know shit about me. Now leave me alone. Don’t you have some married woman to fuck tonight, anyway?”
I was pulling at all the rumors I had heard while working the diner. Whether they were true was debatable, but I needed something to distance myself from this man.
He shook his head and opened his arms wide open. “Night’s wide open for you, Sav.”
I pushed past him as I got into my car. “Goodnight and fuck off, Hawk.”
I slammed the car door shut and turned the car on. Taking off, I couldn’t tell if Hawk was following me. I just hoped he stayed away. Him showing up at the house would just cause more drama between him and Lloyd and put me in even worse danger.
Pulling into the driveway, I could see Lloyd standing in the doorway with his arms crossed again. I parked and walked up to him.
His eyes were glassy and he reeked of alcohol.Of course, he was drunk already…
“Why the fuck are you late?”
I shrugged. “Car trouble. I asked you to fix it last week, and you didn’t.”
He grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to him. I turned my head away as he leaned down closer to me.
“Fucking liar. You were with him, weren’t you?”
“No. I had car trouble.”
Lloyd grabbed my hair and slammed my head against the wall of the house.
