“How are we feeling today, Savannah?”

“Uh, I’m okay. Sore, but could be worse, huh?”

He laughed as he leaned on the edge of the bed.

“That it could be. Let’s talk about what’s been going on. You had a pretty serious head injury which caused a stroke.”

“And for all my hair to be shaved off…”

Doctor Tickner frowned. “Yes. I am very sorry about that, but I needed to do that in order to save your life. We aren’t sure of any long-term damage yet, but I would like to perform some tests later. Would that be okay?”

I nodded. Lily cleared her throat and stood up.

“I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the police will want to talk to you now that you’re awake. I’ll be here the whole time and have no problem asking them to leave if it’s too much.”

I sighed and looked at Hawk. “I guess we can’t hold them back forever, huh?”

Lily shook her head. “It will all be okay. But first we’ll get the doctor’s tests then go from there.”

Yawning, I laid my head back on the pillow. “Can we do the tests in a bit? I’m so tired.”

Doctor Tickner nodded. “I’ll be back soon. The nurse will bring you some breakfast and then we’ll get started.”

Lily gathered her things up and walked toward the door. “I’ll come back in a bit too. Hawk, call me when the cops get here.”

Hawk squeezed my hand as the door closed, leaving just the two of us alone again.

“Rest up, baby. I’m not going anywhere.”

I pulled his hand to my lips and softly kissed it. Rolling over, I closed my eyes, knowing I was safe with my man by my side.

Thesmellofbaconand waffles wafted around me as I opened my eyes. I looked to see Hawk digging into a tray of breakfast food.

He smiled when he saw me and scooted the table closer to the bed.

“Food is amazing here, shit. Maybe I should end up at the Medical center more often!”

I laughed and shook my head. “Or you can not and let your girlfriend cook for you instead.”

Hawk arched his eyebrow. “Will you cook in a sexy little outfit?”

I playfully slapped his arm while I laughed.

“We’ll see, Hawk.”

Doctor Tickner slowly opened the door and smiled as he came in.

“Glad to see you’re eating. How are you feeling after that little nap?”

I shrugged. “Okay. My head hurts a bit. I don’t really have an appetite despite the food smelling so good.”

Doctor Tickner nodded his head as I talked. “All normal. Try eating some small bites of the waffles. They are pretty plain, so nothing crazy to upset your stomach.”

Hawk moved the plate toward me with cut up waffles. He picked up the fork and handed it to me. I took a small bite and leaned back while I chewed it.

Doctor Tickner smiled as I chewed.

“Good! Now while you eat, I want to ask you some questions.”
