My chest heaved with each breath I brought in.

Easy. Fucking easy. Don’t kill him. Endure. We have to endure… for her. To kill them all, endure…

The voice was a rush through my head.

I swallowed hard and backed away from the mess of a man on the floor.

“Everett will know about this,” he called out as I approached the door. “You will be punished.”

I stopped at the door and turned to face him.

“Do it and see what happens. You think Sister Devon’s disappearance was random? You’ll fucking join her.”

He visibly swallowed and wiped at the blood on the side of his head.

“I’ll be the one to fucking kill you. Don’t try me.” And with those words, I opened the door and stepped out.

I rushed from the office and didn’t stop until I was in the men’s room, vomiting into the toilet.

I fucking hated Chapel Crest.

SIRENA

Shadow tightened his hand on mine as he led me through campus after classes. Mirage was supposed to meet me, but Shadow said something came up and they’d switched spots. Worry settled deep in my bones as I walked at Shadow’s side.

“Hey, man,” Vic said as he and Devon fell into step with us. I hadn’t seen them around a lot lately, so I was surprised when they joined us.

“Hey,” Shadow answered. We stopped at a vending machine, and he inserted money into it and picked out our snacks.

Vic’s gaze darted to me, his cheeks red, before he looked away.

“So, you guys are back together,” Devon said, eyeing us.

Shadow wrapped his arm around my waist and pressed a kiss to the top of my head after grabbing our snacks.

“Yeah. Sorry, I haven’t been around lately. Just been busy,” he said. “If you guys want to hang out tonight, that would be cool.” He glanced at me quickly. I smiled and nuzzled closer to him to let him know I was OK with that.

“That’d be awesome. Lucy is coming over too, and we’ll get a few more people to game with tonight at my place.” Devon grinned. “Mortal Kombat tournament, dude. Loser has to run naked through campus.

“Remember Lucy?” Vic cut in. “What are you guys? Exes now? She was the one you were eating out after Sirena dumped you for the watchers.”

I bristled at his words. I hadn’t known Shadow had been doing that with her, but I should have expected it. She had seemed to like him a lot.

His arm tightened around my waist like he thought I would run from the truth. The night I’d drunk too much and Shadow had buried his face between my legs flashed through my head, and my cheeks heated at the lewd memory. He was incredible, and it did make me a little jealous to know he’d done that with her, but the watchers had gone even further with women and I still loved their crazy asses.

“Yeah. I remember Lucy,” Shadow said softly. “It’s not something we need to talk about right now.”

“What? Doesn’t Sirena know you were fucking her?” Vic pressed, his eyes on me.

I frowned. He said he’d never been with anyone before.

“I didn’t fuck her,” Shadow snapped, releasing me.

“Hey, man. Just what I heard.” Vic held his hands up. Shadow’s breathing was quicker, and I knew he was upset.

“This another fake thing, though, man? You and her?” Vic continued.

Clearly, he liked pressing his luck.
