I inhaled a deep breath and looked at Judge. This part was all him.He waited for my nod before opening his mouth, and I gave it because, like I told him earlier, no more secrets. If I knew about it, so did they.
“You all discovered a little history of the Mobilis Coven, yes?”Everyone nodded, then Judge continued.“My grandfather was the Lorekeeper of the Dusek Clan before me.We have been responsible for keeping records and histories of this part of North America since before the Europeans came. The way it works is we store our knowledge in memory caches, like your magical ones. Then, we pass them down to the next generation for safekeeping.Lorekeepers are not always Spiritwalkers, but I am both.I have seen the past of the old Mobilis Coven. And I have seen how it ended.Tana’s ancestor was responsible for breaking the line. That was a powerful spell, indeed.”
“But—” Magnus moved to interrupt, but Rio placed her hand over his lips, and the big male hushed.
“Now, I spent the greater part of the last few weeks accessing my ancestor’s memory caches. The spell Tana’s ancestor and her partner cast, while tearing apart the coven that existed then, left the future open for a new Mobilis Coven where each of the main elemental covens were represented, including the two covens that had been excluded before.Sanguinem and Somnior. This whole thing began when you all came to Westwood. In fact, it started with you,” Judge explained, pointing at Rio.
“Your coven, water witch?”he asked.
“Cumatilis,” she whispered, standing up and walking toward the round coffee table.
“Yours?”Judge asked, looking at Maia next.
“Caelum,” Maia said, joining Rio.
“Incendo,” said Tana, moving next to Maia.
“Tellus,” Jade said, eyes full of unshed tears.
“Sanguine,” Mabe murmured.
“Somnior,” I said at last, joining my sisters.
A tremor shook the room, and a blinding light filled the entire space, blinding us all momentarily.Gasps and exclamations abounded as that light dimmed, still glowing, but not too bright that we could not open our eyes once more.Where the six of us held hands, blue, white, orange, green, red, and lavender mists swirled around us.
The atmosphere smelled of ozone and sizzled with energy. Our mates stood back, watching in awe as our powers joined, exploring, and accepting each other as we formed the first Mobilis Coven the world had seen since the last Witch War.
“That is how history is made, my friends,” Judge commented, and the pride in his voice filled me with so much love and gratitude I could hardly express it.
Then it was a matter of preparing ourselves. Our mates helped, of course, as all of us dressed for battle.
And it was going to be one.
That much, I knew.
Anticipation and anxiety warred within the small space of our dorm, and I laughed thinking we would need to leave this place and maybe get a house or something if the school was still standing when we were done.I hadn’t explained it all yet to my roommates, and even then I knew I was going to be replacing that word with sisters a whole lot more often than not.
“I feel the same,” Mabe said, joining me in the kitchen as I waited for Judge to finish brewing me a special tea he’d made meant to bolster my strength.
“What?”
“Well, you were thinking we were more like sisters now, and I agree.I feel the same,” Mabe replied, her eyes going almost full red now.
“Should you feed?”I asked.I was worried about her hunger getting out of control.
“Did already.I think they’re staying red because my powers know we are headed to a fight.Besides, I’ll need my bloodlust vision to find the rift again,” she said, motioning toward her eyes.
It made sense so I nodded, accepting the mug of tea from Judge with a smile for my mate.He was something to behold, decked out in his own fighting clothes. He painted lines down his face, and was wearing a suede vest with beads, bones, and runes sewn into it with matching pants. His tattooed arms bulged with eagerness and his body seemed to glow with his magic.I knew he was powerful, but I had never seen him flaunt his magic so, and the results were breathtaking.
“I will need to access all I have to protect you, Nizhoni. But I am glad you like what you see,” he said, a wicked grin spreading across his face.
“I always have,Calon,” I replied, using the name I’d given him despite us being outside the bedroom.
He waited for me to drain the mug before placing it back in the sink. Then he turned and gathered me in his embrace, crushing me to him with more strength than I expected.A moment of anxiety hit me hard, and I worried this would be the last time I had him all to myself like this.
“We’ve only just found each other again, Nizhoni.I will not lose you now,” he growled, cupping my face in his hands.“I walked worlds to search for you and I will do it again. No matter how long. You are my entire heart.I give everything I have to you freely. My heart. My body.My magic. My past.My present. And My future.”
I smiled through tears, nodding my head and accepting his kiss before breaking off to tell him the same.
