“I will hold you to that, Nizhoni.Stay strong.Be fierce like I know you can be.You owe me a future.”

Chills rippled up my spine, and I nodded.“I owe you a future,” I said, meaning every word.

The others were ready, and it was time to head off to what waited for us.I wasn’t sure what to expect, I only knew it wouldn’t be easy.

How did one go about fixing a rip in the multiverse?

I only hoped the walk through the cold forest would provide us with some answers. If it didn’t, the future of witchkind looked bleak as fuck.

“You are ready,” Judge said, holding the door open.

He was right.I just had to walk through it.

CHAPTER14

The time had come, and we were finished waiting for someone else to save us.

At least, I sure as fuck was.

My body still hummed with the magic of my coven, and joy traveled throughout my veins at the realization that I, Enid Morrigan, true name Nizhoni, was no longer alone.

The truth of what was happening to the shifters on campus hit everyone hard after Magnus confirmed he was unable to reach his kraken.I never thought I would see the day when such powerful warriors as Brandon and he would be struck so low.

But I could not blame them.

Who could?

Shifters had a unique and complete connection to their creatures, as only dual-natured beings could. It was a terrible thing to watch, and even worse, to see their mates be just as affected by their sudden loss. These women were not just my roommates or friends, they were my family.

The family I chose.

Sisters in this new coven we formed.

Nothing had ever felt as true as that statement except for maybe the one where I called Judge myCalon, my heart, my true mate.

“Are you sure you should be doing this?”Brandon asked Tana, his eyes filled with worry.“I can’t protect you in this skin, mo spréach.”

“Maybe not, but maybe it’s my turn to protect you, my love,” she told him, cupping his cheek and kissing him so intensely I felt my own heart stir in response.

The others did more of the same. Each couple whispering to their mates, sealing their bonds with touches, a kiss, a look, and their solemn oaths to be loyal, constant, and strong on this fateful day.

My heart squeezed, and I knew I was lucky to be counted among them.So many have been suffering with the loss of magic. There had to be a way to fix it before the entire supernatural world fell apart.

“Ready, Nizhoni?”Judge asked.

I was about to nod when I saw a familiar figure bearing down on us.The weather had turned cold all over campus for once, and it had me bundled up in thick jeans, boots, a sweater, and a puffer jacket. But when the fade finally caught up, I still shivered at the blast of icy wind that accompanied him.

“Apologies, fair one.Where are you off to?”the old wizard fade, who I started calling Will, like for Shakespeare, asked me as I hustled beside my friends.

“Hey, we’re going to see if we can seal the rift,” I told him, seeing no reason to lie.

“The rift? You are twelve, but, oh my.You must take caution with you.”

I looked at him then, having to work at it since I’d spent so much time avoiding fades. He was so clear, I could see him as he must have been in life.

An older gentle wizard, a father, perhaps?

A husband?
