It wasn’t a tear staining his finger. It was blood.

“I need you to explain,” he growled, putting distance between us.

“Hey guys! You wanna join us for a game?” Jade barged in, a false smile on her lips as her voice trailed off.

“No more games,” Fin growled and turned to face her. “Mabe Marlow, I have no choice but to put you in my custody until such time as an investigation into your magic can be conducted.”

Fucking hell.

CHAPTER6

“No,”I said, shaking my head.

“No? You think this is a choice?” he asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

I ducked around him and headed to the opposite end of the room. I had to create some distance before I did something I regretted. Like bite him.

“She isn’t going anywhere with you,” Jade snapped loudly.

“What’s going on?” Arlo came running, as did the others.

“I am placing Mabe in my custody,” Fin growled, moving to block me off from everyone.

“Just try it, buddy, and we are going to so kick your ass!” Rio answered, her mate growling behind her.

“This is none of your concern. Miss Marlow, stand up, please. We are going—”

“Look at her, she’s sick. You can’t take her anywhere,” Jade replied, and she was not wrong.

I was sick. Sick with hunger. All the magic in the room combined with the sounds of so many hearts beating, all pulsing, all thumping along steadily, were whetting my appetite. I couldn’t help myself. I salivated.

“Mr. Apellare, I don’t think you understand. Mabe is one of ours, and we defend our own. You have no right to take her anywhere,” Enok stated, trying for a calm no one else seemed to possess.

“I am an Enforcer commissioned by the Council of Covens. Mabel Marlow has been under my surveillance for weeks now, and you know what? Fuck this. I don’t need to explain myself to any of you!” Fin retorted hotly.

Damn. He was hot. Powerful and self-righteous, practically bursting with testosterone. Even in my state, I could appreciate that about the man who was now my enemy. I shivered in desire, completely turned on by the determination and fury in his tone.

Fuck, I was sick.

Everyone was yelling, and I felt magic pulsing in the air. That greedy part of me, the one I could never satisfy, woke up again, and it was hungry—always so fucking hungry.

“Shit, everyone out!” Arlo demanded.

“I am not leaving. Not without her. She is in my custody,” Fin growled.

“Okay, you wanna stay? Great, just get out of my way,” snarled the healer before turning back to me. “Mabe, what did you do with the box?”

“B-bed. Un-under th-the b-bed-d-d,” I grunted.

Fuck.

I was shaking like a leaf. My gut twisted, and I turned over onto my hands and knees, breathing deep as I tried to control the powers swirling inside of me. My magic was dangerous, angry, and when it came out, it always packed a punch.

“Found it!” Jade yelled, tossing the box at Arlo.

But Fin’s hand shot out, catching it in midair. He snarled, tearing it open, and held the bag of blood Arlo had procured for me.

“Give it to me,” Arlo demanded, but the Enforcer stared at it, eyes wide.
