“Fuck. She is one, isn’t she? She’s a blood witch,” he hissed, and his anger seemed to fill every corner of the room.

I gasped in pain, my magic practically tearing me apart. I didn’t understand what was happening. My hunger felt different, stronger somehow. It was so much worse than ever before.

“Listen to me, we were working to control it, damn it. I don’t know what’s wrong, but with the way magic is leaving this realm, it isstarvingher. Can you understand?”

“No! I don’t understand,” growled Fin.

“Look,” Arlo retorted. “If she doesn’t get the blood, her powers will feed on everyone here. Do you understand that? With the remaining little magic in the world, her feeding on it would be devastating to all of us. You included,Enforcer, now get out of my way.”

“No! The blood witches were hunted and banished by those I serve. This is not possible!”

“Oh, come on. She told me you grabbed an empty bag she dropped the other day. What did you think it was? You knew what she was, but you ignored your duty,” Arlo scoffed.

“Fuck you! I didn’t know. I thought maybe you all were dabbling in some shit you should leave alone. Some stupid ritual or ceremony. I didn’t know she was, that she is—fuck! This is impossible.”

“Guys, you guys,” Jade said, whimpering as my magic reached for hers first.

“Get her out of here,” I gasped, wrestling with my now raging hunger.

Hungry.

Need to feed.

Starving.

So very hungry.

“Magnus! Brandon! Take Jade out of this room,” bellowed the healer.

Arlo had to scream now because of the wind I had somehow conjured. Papers, clothes, the pile of tissues I’d left on the floor after I binge read the latest fantasy romance series by one of my favorite authors flew around the room.

Then again, perhaps it was Maia calling on the wind. Maybe her magic was reacting to mine as it sought something to feed on. Tana and Rio grabbed the air witch after the boys dragged Jade into the other room. They grabbed her on either side, lifting the slight female and carrying her out. They came back to help a few minutes later. But there was nothing they could do.

“Mabe?” Tana said, the fire witch looked nervous as hell.

“Are you okay? What can we do?” Rio asked.

“Leave! Before I come for you too,” I begged them, crying now and not bothering to hide my red tears from anyone.

Both males were giving off so much energy, maybe it was simply testosterone, that my magic switched gears, poking and prodding at the two of them. I wrestled with it, growling like a wild thing as I tried to beat it down.

Fin and Arlo continued their fighting, but the Enforcer stopped and stared when I begged my roommates to get to safety. His head canted to the side, looking like a curious animal, he turned his gaze back to the healer who grabbed onto his arm.

“For fuck’s sake, give me the blood, Fin. It is the only thing that will help her,” Arlo demanded.

“I cannot be a party to this. Damn it, I amboundto the Council,” Fin growled, gesturing to the runes on his face and hands.

“Fin, she will die if she doesn’t get that blood. But not before she sucks our magic dry. Now, give me the bag!”

I followed the conversation, my gaze riveted to the bag of blood that was my salvation. Everything was crimson now. The hazy red vision part of the hunger raging inside me.

“Move,” Fin yelled, pushing past Arlo. He kneeled before me, holding the bag out to my lips. “Here. Drink.”

Our gazes collided, his silver and mine, well, I did not have to imagine what color they were. Blood red. Goddess, I was such a monster. I took the blood bag from Fin, bit the plastic with my now fully descended fangs, and sucked on it.

Hard.

Cold, coppery fluid filled my mouth, and my magic pulsed with relish. I hated the fact it tasted so damn good. I guess it was sort of the same thing, like when people ate leftover pizza or cold pasta right out of the fridge. Being a blood witch was not something I enjoyed, and it was definitely a secret. But it looked like the cat was out of the bag.
