“At Ever After?”
Faith nodded.
“That’s huge.”
“It’s not going to happen.” She stood up from the bench, feeling at a disadvantage somehow with him standing. “She thinks we’re together.”
Logan laughed. “Everyone thinks we’re together.”
“No!” Faith swallowed hard. “No one thinks we’re together.” She tried to sound calmer than she felt. “At least, no one who knows us thinks we’re together.”
He took another step closer until he was only inches away. He put his hand on the wall behind her and leaned in.
She was sure he was going to kiss her again, and she couldn’t seem to decide whether she wanted him to or not. Her body and her brain were in a full-out war when it came to Logan Langdon.
“What would it hurt to pretend?” His voice dripped with heat. “I mean, if it landed us the biggest wedding of the year, why not?”
Why not? Why not?She could think of a million reasonswhy not. At least, she thought she could. At that moment, she couldn’t seem to think of any except…
“I mean, if you think you can handle all this.” He laughed and pushed back so there was a bit of distance between them again.
And there it was. The reason she wouldn’t be pretending anything that involved Logan.Because he was Logan. And he made her crazy.
“I can handle it, all right.” She swallowed hard and smoothed her hair back. “That’s not the question here.”
“Then what is?”
Dammit.
“We’re not going to pretend to be a couple like Damon and Katie did.” She shook her head and crossed her arms. “Not for a job.”
“It’s not just any job,” he countered. “Besides, it wouldn’t be like Damon and Katie. That was different because they actually have always been madly in love with each other and we—”
“Haven’t,” she finished for him, doing her best to hide the unexpected sting his words had. It didn’t make any sense for her to be affected by his words, anyway. After all, he’d driven her crazy their entire life. He’d done nothing but tease her and poke fun at her when they were kids. When they were old enough, he seemed to take some sort of extra-special glee in flaunting his ridiculously attractive self at her and his teasing took on a whole new level. Butlove?Nope. No way.
“Whatever.” He waved his hand and started to turn away before facing her again. “It’s a bad idea anyway.”
“What?” Her spine stiffened. “Why?”
He took a step toward her again.
She inhaled sharply, hating herself for being so affected by him.
“Because you can’t do it anyway. You’re a terrible actress. You’d never be able to pull it off.”
“Bullshit!”
“What?” His lips twisted up into a dangerously sexy grin. “You think you can pull it off?”
“I know I can.” She cocked her head. “I don’t thinkyoucould. No way you have it in you to act like a loved-up boyfriend type. That’s not your style.”
Something flashed in his eyes and he took a deep breath before letting it out slowly. “You’re on.”
“On?”
“Yeah. I’ll bet you I can do it.” He widened his stance. “In fact, I’ll bet you that I can do it, but you can’t. I’ll even make it a bet worth your while.”
Alarm bells rang in the back of her head, but Faith was never one to back down from a dare, and definitely not a bet. “How’s that?”
