“If you can outlast me and pull off the wedding of the century while pretending to be desperately in love with me, I’ll back off.”

“You’ll back off?”

“I’ll leave.” He shrugged, as though it were no big deal. “I’ll go back to running my own ranch and leave you alone. You know exactly what I mean.”

She did. And now that she was faced with it, Faith could no longer be sure that she wanted him to back off. But her stubbornness won out. “And if you win?” She shook her head quickly. “Not that you will.”

“No,” he mocked her. “Of course not.” She glared at him, and he laughed. “If I win, and you can’t hack it…” He pretended to think about it for a minute. “Then I get you for a whole night.”

Her entire body flashed with heat, moisture pooling instantly between her legs. “Pardon me? There’s no way I’m betting a night of sex.”

“Who said anything about sex?” He looked taken aback, but then he winked. “At least, not as my prize.” Logan bit his bottom lip a little and gave her a look full of promise.

The details of which, more than anything else at that moment, she wanted to find out.

“Do we have a bet?”

Faith’s body was on fire, the alarm bells clanging at full volume. Making a deal with the devil would not end well. She knew she should walk away. She was a grownup. She could say no. She could turn around and— “Deal.” She heard herself speak, and as if she were experiencing an out-of-body moment, she saw her offer her hand to shake on it.

“Oh no.” Logan took her hand in his and pulled her toward him until she was pressed up against the length of him. “A bet like this needs to be sealed with a kiss.”

And before she could protest, his lips were on hers and she was melting into the hottest kiss she’d ever experienced. It only lasted a second before Logan pulled away and touched her lips gently with one finger.

“I’ll see you soon.”

He walked away, leaving her standing in the darkened corner, unable to fully make sense of what had just happened. Her fingers floated up to her lips that were still on fire. Her heart raced and before her legs gave out from under her, Faith sat down hard on the chair, dropped her head in her hands, and took a deep breath.

She was so screwed.

And worse—she couldn’t decide whether that was a good thing or not.
