“I don’t think we do know that,” said Luke. “It’s going to take some serious investigation to figure that out, and the only way we do that is to get to her and interrogate her.”
“It’s too dangerous, Luke,” said Griffin, shaking his head. “I don’t want anyone else in danger. I’ll go to her.”
“No. No,” said Saint. “Marilisa just found you. Losing you would be devastating to her.”
“I appreciate that, Saint. But I can’t afford to lose her either. Let me do this. For everyone here and for Gable.”
“What is it you’re proposing?” asked Eric.
“We set up a demonstration in D.C., and I’ll be the one that goes. I won’t have anything with me, nothing to demonstrate, but I’ll be the one she meets with. I would think she’d recognize me right away. You’ll never convince me that she doesn’t have a photo of all of us pinned above her bed,” he frowned.
“Griffin, I know you’re fast, brother, but you’re not faster than a bullet. This is dangerous. If they kill you,” said Eric.
“If they kill me, get my body out of there. Don’t allow them to take me and dice me to pieces. Bring me back here and bury me on the island with the animals. Gable would have enjoyed that,” he smiled.
“I think we need to talk about this further,” said Luke. “In the old days we used to be able to call on the POTUS or someone at the Pentagon. Anymore, I’m not sure who we trust and who we don’t trust.”
“We trust no one,” said Cam. “No one except our own people, those around us here. If you don’t recognize the face, don’t trust them.”
“Jesus, is this what our world has become?” asked Hex. “We only trust the faces of our friends and family?”
“I’m afraid so,” said Luke. “Griffin? Go with Hiro. He’ll get you fixed for weapons, our special bulletproof vest, and some other cool toys. We’ll notify Michelle Fryar that three of our people will be meeting her in D.C. for a demonstration.”
Griffin nodding, left the room with Hiro.
“I want to go with him,” said Saint.
“I figured you would,” nodded Luke. “Brax? You up for it?”
“Yep.”
“Then get your gear. We’ll let her know we have a narrow window of opportunity. You’ll be on the Osprey and arrive under stealth coverage. We’ll e-mail you the coordinates of the meet. If you get your shot. Kill her.”
“If we see the girl, do we kill her?” asked the man.
“No. I want her alive and any others that are with her.”
“Are we sure she’s coming?” he asked.
“I asked for the lead engineer, and she’s the lead. If they don’t send her, then I’ll have to demand more loudly.”
“What’s with these people anyway? Why are we chasing them around the globe?”
“Because they are special beyond your comprehension. Keep your men hidden. I don’t want them to know how many we have here. They’ll probably send one man with her.”
They waited in the vehicle at the edge of the old airstrip, patiently waiting for the group to show up. She’d been chasing these people for decades, hoping to get to the one that she knew truly belonged to her.
It had been a fun exercise, although taking longer than expected, to inseminate herself. If Griffin had only been cooperative, they could have done it the old-fashioned way. For some strange reason, he wasn’t attracted to her at all.
His gifts of superior speed were needed. She wasn’t aware of his true IQ, as most of them fucked with the actual IQ tests. Her own IQ was over one-fifty. With the girl in her hands, if she could find a few willing males, or unwilling males, she would finally create the race her father wanted.
“Looking for someone?” came the voice from behind them. Michelle spun around, shocked that they had snuck up on them. “Don’t worry. It’s just us. Unlike the game you were ready to play with us, Michelle. Your men are napping.”
She smiled at him, appreciative of his abilities and skill. Staring at the two other men, she didn’t recognize them but knew their demeanor.
“Where is the woman?”
“Our engineer was needed in the facility. We’ll be demonstrating what you asked for.” She tilted her head, smiling at him.
