“No. Garrett, David, and Gable told them to leave me alone. They said that the team should be grateful that we saved them. They thought we were freaks. It happened to the others as well. It’s why we ended up together.”
“I’m sure that’s been very helpful for all of you. Tell me about the laboratory,” said Ashley.
Griffin squirmed on the couch, and Bree watched him carefully, tapping the button for Doc and Cruz to come. From the window they watched Griffin to be sure he didn’t reach for one of the women.
“I didn’t like the laboratory,” he said quietly, shaking his head.
“Was it in Baghdad?”
“No. No, I don’t know where it was. It was white. White everywhere and bright lights. There were instruments and machines and a horrible smell of metal burning.”
“Metal? Like gunfire?”
“No. Like radiation. Like the smell of machines putting off radiation.”
Cruz stared at Ashley and Bree and then at Doc. He was describing something that few people could actually smell. It was possible but unlikely. If they were delivering more radiation doses to him, it may have been to see if they could enhance his skills further.
“She touched me.”
“Yes. You said she touched you,” said Ashley.
“No. She touched me, my penis. I was awake but couldn’t move. She was laughing. She said she wanted to personally get the sample. She touched me.”
“She ejaculated you?” asked Ashley.
“Y-yes. I remember. The lab. That’s why it was blank for Marilisa. It wasn’t her memory. It’s mine.”
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
“This woman is a whole bag of fucked up crazy,” said Cruz to the others the next morning. “Griffin? May we talk about what we heard in your session?”
“Of course. We won’t stop her any other way.”
“She tried to gain Griffin’s trust but couldn’t. She wanted to reproduce with him, but he wasn’t attracted to her in the least. In fact, he felt nauseated by her.”
“So, she forcefully took his sperm while he was under?” asked Hex.
“No. She took it while he was awake and immobile. She took it herself. By her own hand.”
“Oh, fuck,” muttered Luke. “I’m sorry, Griffin. That’s what Marilisa was feeling about the lab reference. She felt it, but it was your memory.”
“I think so,” he said, nodding. “It’s funny. I didn’t have a nightmare last night, and neither did Marilisa. Maybe talking about it made it no longer hold any power for either of us.”
“At least we know the lengths this woman went to,” said Eric. “Griffin, I know this is difficult because he was your brother, but what happened to Gable?”
“He was trying to get the animals to help them move the agents away from us. It never failed for him. He could get into the mind of any animal, and they saw him as their alpha, doing whatever he asked.”
“It didn’t work?” asked Eric.
“It did, and then suddenly it didn’t. He liked using wolves and bears because humans are generally afraid of them. He would have loved this place,” he said with a sad expression. The others were quiet, allowing him time to reflect.
“Anyway, he was working with these large gray wolves and two black bears. Everything was working, and then suddenly, this grizzly showed up. It felt out of place. I heard him say, ‘it’s not working,’ and then he told us to run. The grizzly attacked him.”
“I’m sorry, brother,” said Cam. Griffin shook his head.
“We knew the dangers. We all know the dangers. That bear wasn’t wild. He was trained, and if I had to guess, he was getting electric shocks to do what they were asking.”
“How do we know that she’s the end of the line with this?” asked Hex.
