“No, you didn’t tell me to, but I’ll run it over today,” Carvelli replied.

“Have you put in a bill for you and your guys yet?” Connie asked.

“I have it with me.”

“Have Carolyn cut a check from my trust account. She knows the case number,” Connie said.

“Um, well, ah…”

“What?”

“I pay my guys cash,” Carvelli said.

“Sounds like tax fraud,” Marc said. “Conspiracy to commit tax fraud.”

“I like it,” Connie said. “Tell Carolyn to cut a check for cash for the amount you need. We’ll bill it under investigation expenses.”

“Okay, we’ll start working on the other four,” Carvelli said.

“And I’ll take another a shot at Faye Hayden,” Maddy said. “Should I tell her we know, we heard she was raped?”

“Yeah, but don’t tell her you got it from her ex,” Marc said.

“If he’s the only one that she has told, she’ll know it came from him, anyway,” Connie said.

“Don’t admit it,” Marc told Maddy. “After she admits it, tell her it’s office rumor.”

“Before everybody leaves,” Maddy said, “Vivian insists on throwing us an engagement party.”

“Free food and booze,” Marc said.

“Can I invite my guys?” Carvelli asked.

“Yes! And Vivian specifically told me to have you bring Gretchen,” Maddy said.

“Seriously?” Connie asked.

“Yes, she really likes her,” Maddy replied.

“She’s told me that,” Carvelli said. “Gretchen is usually booked on weekends.”

“Aren’t you and Vivian still you know, friends with benefits?” Connie asked Carvelli.

“Nah, that kind of ran its course, I guess. Too different, but we’re still friends. I call her about once a week or so,” Carvelli replied.

“Maddy has dinner with her at least once a week. I go too if I have time,” Marc said.

“Third weekend of June,” Maddy said. “Get a list of names and addresses to me by Friday so we can send out invitations.”

“Is she involved with the wedding plans?” Connie asked.

“What wedding?” Marc asked.

Maddy looked at him with fire in her eyes and he quickly tried to walk that back.

“I mean, um, ah, well we haven’t set a date or anything.”

“I’ll let you know when it is,” Maddy drolly answered him. “Just make sure you show up on time.”
