“I don’t think there is a ransom involved. This feels personal. But I am hiring a bunch of guys to help me,”

“Whatever you need. Just let me know, Anthony.”

“Thanks,” he quietly said.

“Um, bad timing, but I’ve missed you,” she said to her former lover.

“Me too,” Carvelli said. “When this is over. I have to go.”

“Anthony, get her back.”

“We will.”

Paul Baker came up with the address and other information Carvelli needed in under two minutes. Being a person who did not function by the same clock everyone else did, Baker was awake and working when he called.

“You understand exactly what I want?” Carvelli asked.

“Absolutely,” Sorenson replied.

“You’re good with it. No qualms, no problems?”

“For Maddy? Try to stop me.”

“That’s what I need, thanks, Dan. Who you gonna use?”

“Franklin and Tommy are on their way here now. Sherry Bowen will take charge of watching Marc and Connie.”

“You know where you want to take him?” Carvelli asked.

“I know a couple places. What time you getting back? Do you need a ride?”

“Seven thirty, seven forty-five. Somewhere around there,” Carvelli said. “I can take a cab or an Uber if I have to. We’ll talk when I get in.”

“You’re all set on the first flight out of O’Hare at six thirty,” Paxton told him.

By now, they had arrived at Paxton’s townhouse. Sean pulled into the driveway and shut off the engine.

“Is there anything you need? Anything we can do? I’d like to help,” Sean said looking at Carvelli.

“Can you get some people, real FBI guys to keep on Labelle? He’s in on this, I know it,” Carvelli replied.

“Yeah, Helen and I know some. A couple for sure. How about you?” he asked looking at Paxton.

“Yes, I know four. The people who were working with me on Labelle. Two SEC guys and two Feebs. They’ll take vacation time if they have to,” Paxton answered him.

“It’s almost two o’clock,” Sean said. “You should try to get a little sleep.”

“I will,” Carvelli said.

“Sleep,” Sean said looking at Paxton.

“Mind your own business,” Helen said.

“I’m going to find her and when I do, we’re going to blow the lid off this thing. That’s why I want some Feds on Labelle and his driver. To arrest them as soon as it happens,” Carvelli said.

“Labelle will sing like a canary to make a deal,” Paxton said. “He doesn’t strike me as someone who will take a long stretch in a federal prison.”

“Exactly,” Carvelli replied.
