Quinn stopped talking abruptly. “Sorry, I’m rambling.”
“It’s okay.” My shoulders relaxed, and some of my nerves went away. “It’s good to hear from you.”
“Colton!” Quinn whisper-screamed. “Hey, Colt, it’s Luna, Itoldyou she missed us.”
I heard someone else, but it was too faint to make out. My heart squeezed painfully in my chest. Colton was going to tell him to stop talking to me, I just knew it.
“Quinn. I have to tell you two something,” I said. Before this got out of hand. Quinn was excited, sure, but Colton and Dante reminded both of us it was for the best to keep it a fling.
“Colton’s in the room now.” Muffled sounds from Quinn’s end of the phone. “It’s Luna.”
“Luna?” Colton’s voice was rough and gravelly, and sent shivers through me.
I stifled a whine. I wanted them, both of them in front of me right now.
“Hi,” I whispered.
“Putting you on speaker.” Quinn’s voice amplified and Colton’s became clearer.
“It’s good to hear from you,” Colton said. “Are you okay? Is everything alright? I thought you just wanted a fling.”
The last statement was almost accusatory.
I took a deep breath in, and swallowed hard, then blurted out my news. “I’m pregnant. I just thought you two would want to know.”
Dead silence on the other end. I took another sip of tea, the cup shaking in my hand, and Halos made small circles on my back.
“Oh my goodness,” Quinn said at the same time Colton said, “Are you sure?”
His voice had some bite to it, and I flinched.
“Of course she’s sure,” Quinn said. “She would be what…two months along now?”
“Yes,” I said.
“You weren’t in heat,” Colton said, sounding poleaxed. “I thought omegas couldn’t get pregnant outside of heat.”
“It’s really rare, apparently.” I tried to laugh to lighten the mood, but it came out like a croak. “I guess I should have played the slots instead.”
“I’ll say.” Quinn sounded distracted. “You have a better chance of being struck by lightning, winning the lottery, and having a total solar eclipse on the same day.”
“We’ll be right there,” Colton said. “You could have told us sooner.”
“I thought it was the flu,” I snapped. “And then I was in shock. And then since we all agreed it was just a fling and didn’t bother exchanging information, I had to get my cousin to track you down.”
Silence at that.
“You’re right,” Colton said finally. “I’m sorry. Give us your address and we’ll be right out there. We’re in Texas, and you said you were in California, so it’ll be a few hours.”
“You don’t have to come right away,” I said. “I have an alpha, he’s taking care of me.”
I squeezed Halos’s hand. I wanted them to know about Halos, and that his presence in my life wasn’t optional.
“We’ll get it all sorted out.” Colton sounded distracted this time.
“We can get a flight out in the morning,” Quinn said. “And then we’ll be there in the afternoon?”
“That sounds fine.”
