“I’ll tell you.” I smirked. “So should I start by mentioning last night was something I definitely want to do again?”
He fingered the mark he’d left at the junction of my neck and shoulder, and I shivered, remembering how it had felt like a claiming.
“I liked that too,” I said.
Lucien let out a low, primitive growl and hauled me against him. His kiss was deep, thorough, and so shattering that I was grateful he was holding me in his arms, otherwise I was sure I would’ve fainted into a pile of goo right there on the deck.
He sucked my tongue into his mouth, and I gasped at the sensation that did things to my dick that wouldn’t be appropriate for the crowd surrounding us.
“You taste like heaven,” Lucien said against my lips before kissing me again.
Youareheaven,I wanted to say. But I kept that admission tucked inside for another time, not wanting to give too much of myself away, even though he had to know. Lucien was observant in ways most men weren’t, and I hadn’t exactly made it a secret I was falling for him. Anyone could see that.
I sucked and bit at his lower lip, making his cock jerk where it lay between our bodies.
The sound of Lucien’s cell phone ringing in his pants pocket burst our little bubble, but he completely ignored it.
But the second time it started up, I reached for it, having overheard his last conversation with King. He was waiting on a call from him, so I reluctantly broke the kiss and handed him the phone.
He sighed, but hit accept and brought the phone to his ear. “Yes?”
I watched as his annoyed expression morphed into amusement, and then he lowered the phone between us and hit speaker. “Say that again so Kai can hear it, asshole.”
“Hello, Kai,” Theo said. “I was just telling Lucien that the two of you are going to miss the final lap of the race if you insist on having eyes only for each other.”
“Bullshit,” Lucien said. “That’s the polite version. That’s not what you said to me.”
“Well, virgin ears should be protected.”
“You know better than that.”
“No idea what you mean. Besides, a prince can’t be crass. Howdareyou.”
Lucien held his middle finger up in the direction of the stage. “Put the binoculars away and go entertain the rest of the aristocracy.”
Theo waswatchingus? I sat up and grabbed my own pair of binoculars as Theo laughed and ended the call. When I trained my view on the stage, I saw him looking through a pair of his own, and he waved in our direction.
Lucien shook his head with a laugh and then rose to his feet and held his hand out. “Guess we can’t miss the grand finale. Even if your guy doesn’t stand a chance.”
“Hey, yours went out on the first lap.”
“She was targeted. It was a setup.”
“Suuure.” I joined him at the rail and watched the cars roar by as they headed into the last lap.
It was such a rush, the speed, the energy of the crowd, the gorgeous backdrop of Monaco—and, of course, the stunning man beside me. I was just starting to let myself believe I was actually here experiencing it all. There was still the voice in my head telling me I didn’t deserve all of the incredible things happening, that I hadn’t done anything to warrant being happy.
But one look at Lucien, one thought of the way he made me feel like anything was possible, and I shoved those worries aside for another day. If all I ever got was this time with him and all the experiences he’d given me, then I would take it and it would have to be enough.
“Here they come,” he said, moving to stand behind me and resting his hands on the rail on either side of me.
The sound of the crowd grew louder, starting from off in the distance and then moving like a wave in our direction. Soon the mad dash to the finish line began as the three drivers at the top of the heap battled it out on the last long stretch along the coast.
I didn’t even know who to root for now, but it didn’t matter with the frenzy happening, so I found myself yelling, “Go, go, go!” as they passed.
“And Marcello Farina has done it,” the announcer called out as the car from the Ferrari team raced over the finish line first. The roar of the crowd as they leapt to their feet was so loud that I couldn’t hear what else the announcer said, but it didn’t matter. Lucien and I both joined in to cheer for the winner, and then fireworks began to go off in every direction.
I took a mental picture of this moment and held it. I wanted to always remember what I’d seen and felt and experienced these last few days, in case I never got the chance to travel like this again. This moment felt like a culmination of everything over the last few days, and when Lucien’s arms found their way around my waist and he kissed the spot he’d marked on my skin, all I could think was:It doesn’t get any better than this.
