“Sure!” Cam smiles. “No problem.”

“And the check,” Wyatt adds.

Cam disappears.

“Something just came up?” I pick up my beer.

“Oh yeah. Something big. And hard.”

“I was just setting you up for that.”

“I know.” We both grin, the eye contact sending sparks through my veins again. “Thanks.”

“Anytime.”

“We’re a good team.” He drinks his beer.

“You think so?”

“I do. You just need to let loose a little.”

I purse my lips. “Really. And what about you? Maybe you need to take life a little more seriously?”

“Nah. I know how serious life can be. That’s why I’m determined to make it fun.”

I’m not entirely convinced that life should be all fun, but maybe I’m moving that way... a little. Because there’s no denying that being with him is... fun.

It’s more than that, though. It’s exciting. It’s invigorating. Irresistible.

Cam brings our appetizer, boxed up in a Styrofoam container, and Wyatt deals with the check. I’m only about half done my beer, so I take a couple of big swallows, then push the glass away to reach for my jacket.

“In a hurry?” Wyatt’s eyes gleam as he picks up his glass to drain it.

“Can I get a picture with you?”

We both turn to see a young woman standing next to our table. She’s smiling nervously at Wyatt, holding up her phone.

“I’m a big fan,” she adds.

“Sure.” Wyatt stands and moves beside her, smiling. She holds her phone out in front of them and takes a selfie.

“Thank you so much!” She looks at me and says, “Sorry to interrupt.”

“No problem.” She’s kind of cute in her admiration of Wyatt, letting out a little squeal and a hop as she turns away.

“Does that happen a lot?” I ask as we make our way out.

“All the time.”

“You love it.”

“I’m kidding. It doesn’t happenthatoften. And I always appreciate fans.”

“Especially young, pretty ones.”

He chuckles

“Like you were appreciating the Cougar Corps earlier.” The cheerleaders in sparkly, skimpy outfits had definitely attracted his attention as they danced on the basketball court. “I saw them trying to make eye contact with you.”
