Page 14 of Worth It All

“I’ll drive it back to the clubhouse,” Bishop offers, leaving Dash to drive the SUV.

“Looks like he’s still pissed,” Hunter says with a grin.

I shrug. “He’ll get over it.”

It’s not the first time club rules have been broken when it comes to dating family members.

“I’m not saying I disagree with your plan, but I am saying using club family as bait could go all kinds of fucking wrong, especially when there’s a kid involved.”

“I’m open to motherfucking suggestions if you think of a better plan.”

“We get off defense and go on offense. We hunt him down. Involve the Fallen Eagles. It’s not like they weren’t part of this shit show already. Use all our resources in town to find him. Munsey learned a lot from Carson. Get him to hack the security feeds. Cut our local business owners a break on their protection costs and they’ll start talking. We know who our enemy is, Mason. It’s time to put an end to this.”

“You act like we haven’t been doing this already. Hunting my brother isn’t easy. The man has been missing for years because he didn’t want to fucking be found.”

“Maybe now he does.”

Collin

Watching my brother and his biker buddies inspect the truck is humorous. It was way too easy to take it. Their business partner just trusted I was one of them. Guess it helps to be related to the club president.

Charles is so predictable. He’s kept the same routine for years. All this time, I’ve been watching. He may have put business on hold for a while, but I knew he would resume. Knew I could wait him out. Davina’s brother drives the truck back to the clubhouse and they start to unload the boxes.

“For now, we hold onto the product,” Charles orders. “Not taking any chances selling this shit until we know Collin didn’t tamper with it.”

I chuckle at this. Maybe I did. Maybe I didn’t. One thing I know is that my brother won’t take any chances. He’s not a risk taker. I listen to them talk about how I’ve fucked them over. I’m flattered to be such a worthy adversary. When the truck is emptied, Charles stands there looking around. I smile when he finds my camera. I wasn’t exactly trying to hide it.

“There you are,” he says, walking right up to it. “I knew you’d be watching.”

“I’ve been watching for a very long time, brother.”

“Smart. Taking the truck was smart. I’ll give you that. But what do you have to show for it? Your scare tactics won’t work anymore. We have the truck back. We have the guns. You have nothing but your hiding place. I have the Bastards. I have Davina. I have Charlie. You have nothing and no one.”

“Not for long.”

I thought I could let it go. Move on and forgive my own flesh and blood for what he did. I even tried to come back home only to find my dad was dead, my mom left town, and the woman who belongs to me had a kid with my brother. Forgiveness is no longer in my vocabulary.

“I should’ve made sure you were dead. Should’ve stayed until you took your last breath. Should’ve listened to your final heartbeat. I won’t make that mistake again.”

With those parting words, he smashes his fist into the camera.

Davina

Ihad this underlying fear that once we crossed the line, things would be different. And they are but not in a bad way. Mason walks into the clubhouse and the first thing he does is approach me, giving me a soft kiss on the lips as though it’s the most natural thing for him to do. God, it feels natural. Feels like we should’ve been doing this for years. I guess in some ways we were. Like Charlie said, we just needed to make it official.

“Everything okay?”

He nods but I notice his knuckles are scratched and bloody. I arch an eyebrow and he reassures me that he’s fine. This man has been through a lot for this club. It wasn’t all that long ago that he was shot. Thank God for Doc and Skylar.

“You working tonight?” For the first time since we opened, I wish I wasn’t, but I nod in response. “Who’s watching Charlie?”

“He’s hanging out with Bishop. Apparently, they have some sort of pizza and movie fest planned. Guys night since Sloan is working.”

He nods. “I’ll take you to work.”
