Logan’s face appears in the background. My heart sighs with relief seeing these two together. “He was tired so she let him chill. Right, bud?”

“Yeah. The campus is really big! And after school we took Papá Luis to see my cousin and the guinea pigs.”

My son is so excited his day pours out of him like a whizzing kaleidoscope, and he ends it all with an abrupt few words. “Okay, Mom. Gotta go. I love you!”

I want to keep him on the phone but I know five-year olds don’t have the attention span.

But Logan is there. My brown-eyed, gorgeous husband is there. Is he really my husband now? Or are we at boyfriend status? It’s all confusing now, though the gaze coming back at me from hundreds of miles away comes from a man who knows exactly what he wants.

I feel beautiful for the first time in years just being at the receiving end of his amber stare.

“So the cake made it?” he asks.

“Thank God. Well, and thanks to you for running out to get all that ice in the morning. My air-con isn’t the best.”

“Hence me getting the ice.”

“You’re so thoughtful.”

“For you I am…”

His words have me buckling at the knees.

“Well, all the cake parts are in the hotel room now, sofrom here on out I should be good to go. I miss Nino,” I admit. “And you.”

The corners of his lips dance; that meant something to him.

“Just smash it. Okay?”

I giggle.Giggle.I’m so far gone. But knowing what he means touches me like that. “I will.”

I’ve never been supported quite like this before. My brothers were definitely protective growing up. They’re protective now. But shielding someone and nurturing them are two very different things. With Logan, I feel both. I feel it all. I feel everythingfromhim.Forhim. I’m in trouble. It’s kind of scary. But I’m pushing myself to believe it will last, that really he isn’t that guy in the media. My heart squeezes with a wish that this is the man I truly fell for, that he’s returned to me in the most beautiful twist of fate.

I want to tell him I love him. But I settle for something else. “I can’t wait to see you Sunday.”

He glances over his shoulder, presumably to check if Nino is there. His voice is low like thunder. “I am going to devour every inch of you when you’re back.”

Geez, this man gives me immediate pussy flutters. “Oh, are you?”

He checks for small ears again then comes back to me, gaze even darker. “I’m going to show you just how much I missed my wife. When you get back here, I’ll to make your legs shake. Eat you until you melt all over my face.”

My chest heaves with the mere thought of it. I’m deep down the path of thinking how good it will be to have Logan between my legs again, when my phone pings with another message, nearly making me jump.

I clutch my chest.

Logan releases a naughty laugh. “You’re in trouble. Who’s the text from?”

“Santi and Rio are meeting me now. I need to go downstairs.”

He sighs as though trying to allow his passion to go away with his exhale. “All right, there’s one more thing I want to show you.”

He walks over to the couch in the living room and shows me Cayenne lying there. In the frame, I see Logan’s hand with a cat treat in it. My cat takes it but makes sure to swat Logan’s hand afterward.

Logan puts the camera back on him. “How about it? No claws anymore.”

I nod. “Impressive progress.”

“I think so.”
