“What do you mean my safety?” Karley asks at the same time.
When I explain to Karley what Bones was involved in, her eyes nearly fall out of her skull.
“Wait!” She holds up her hands. “So, you’re telling me that Bonestraffickedwomen?”
“That’s exactly what I said, yes.”
“Omg I’m going to be on Dateline!”
Sarah barks out a laugh. “I don’t even think they make that show anymore, Karls.”
“And to the rest of the world, Bones never existed,” I say, causing her eyes to widen again.
“Okaay,” she says taking a small step back.
Sarah flicks her wrist in dismissal. “He’s not going to do anything to you.”
Karley side-eyes me then looks at Sarah. “I’m really sorry for going AWOL. I wanted to reach out, but no one would let me.”
Sarah’s eyes soften then she pulls Karley into her arms. “I’m just glad you came back,” she whispers.
Karley hugs her tightly. “Of course, babe. You’re my ride or die.”
I refrain correcting her thatIam in fact Sarah’s ride or die.
I frown suddenly realizing that she came to the penthouse. “Wait, how did you know she would be here?”
Karley’s cheeks flush and she nibbles on her bottom lip. “My new beau told me.”
I arch a brow.
She rolls her eyes and drops her hands to her side. “Oh, come on. Did you really think a fine piece of ass like myself wouldn’t have fun with the guys you had watching me?”
Now, both of my brows reach my hair line and Sarah cracks up at my side.
“I’ve missed you so much, Karls.”
She smiles warmly at Sarah. “I missed you too, babe. But… I’m going to go back.”
Sarah’s head tilts, confusion covers her features.
“To Ireland, I mean,” Karley continues. “I loved it there when I was able to leave and explore. I want to go back and live there.”
“Promise you’ll keep in touch?”
She pulls out a phone from her back pocket. “Well, duh. I can’t go that long without talking to you again.”
They exchange numbers then Karley leaves with the promise to call Sarah once she returns to Ireland.
“You okay?” I ask, when Sarah shuts the door but doesn’t turn around.
She sniffles and I reach out to spin her around.
“She came back,” she whispers, her voice cracks but it’s filled with relief instead of sadness.
“I’m sorry,mo réalta. I wasn’t planning on having her come back,” I admit.
I grunt and bend at the waist when Sarah punches me. “Don’t ever do that to me again. Don’t ever decide to take someone away without me knowing.”
