“What the fuck, Gray?”

He laughed, wheezing for breath. “I can’t ever get the drop on you. It’s like you have ESP for when I’m stopping by your office, but your expression just now… oh my God. It was like you shit your pantsandwatchedIt.”

Jerk.Only he would remind me of how terrified I’d been when we were twelve and watched that movie. It freaked me out so much I had nightmares for weeks.

“What’s got you all jittery today, or should I say who?” He glanced at my cell phone.

“I don’t know what you mean.” My phone dinged, and I forced myself not to look at the message.

“Don’t you need to get back to Wren?” he teased, moving further into the room.

“Why would you think it’s her?” I hedged. Wren and I hadn’t discussed who we were telling about our arrangement, and I didn’t want to betray her trust.

“Only because she and Ruby texted and chatted into the night, and she wouldn’t say anything to me. Some kind of ‘chicks before dicks’ thing.” He shook his head. “I’m not a fan.”

I snort-laughed. So Ruby knew, and if she did, would it matter if I told Grayson? “It’s complicated.”

“Wait, is it really about you and Wren?” A wide grin spread across his face. “Damn, I’m good.” He did a stupid little dance move and then sat in his usual seat.

“You asshole. You were just guessing?” I let myself drop into my chair.

“The only thing Ruby has ever kept from me was your kiss with Wren, so I took a leap and…”

I ran my hand down my face. “And made a logical conclusion.”

He nodded. “Are you two a thing now?”

“Not exactly.” I got up and closed the door to my office before I sat back down. I didn’t know why this was so hard to verbalize to Gray. We’d talked about our status with various women over the years, and it had never been a problem.

“Shit. You didn’t promise her a baby, did you?” He leaned forward to let his forearms rest on my desk, his expression gravely serious.

“Why the hell would you think that?” I stared at him in complete shock.

“Sorry. My mind jumped.” He waved a hand around. “Since Avery told us she’s going to use a sperm donor to have a baby, it’s all I can think of.”

“Wait. What? How did I not know this?” I typically knew the Wolfe family gossip as soon as Gray did.

He raised an eyebrow.

“Oh, right.” I’d ignored him for so long he hadn’t had the chance.

“So, no baby?”

“No baby.” And now, discussing birth control with Wren went to the top of my list. “I’m not interested in having more kids.”

“Ever?” He sounded surprised.

I shrugged. “I love Zo, but a baby’s a lot of work. I'm not sure I want to divide my limited time with another tiny human.”

“Then what is it?”

If Wren had taken Ruby into her confidence then I should be allowed to do the same. “You can’t tell Ruby you know.”

He mimed zipping his lips. I laughed at the childish gesture we continued to use. It was nice to know someone so long everything they said or did was familiar. “We decided that neither of us is interested in a relationship.”

Grayson frowned.

I held up my hand before he jumped in. “But we have this insane attraction.”
