“How insane?” His grin quickly faded. “Nope. I changed my mind. She’s Ruby’s best friend. I don't want to know the details.”

“She suggested we do a night of just sex where we get it all out of our system and then return to being enemies. So like an enemies with benefits type thing.”

“Is that even a thing?”

“I don’t know, but it fits, right?” Regardless of the correct terminology, Wren and I were doing this.

“I guess. Are you both sure that feelings won’t get in the way or something like that?”

“It hasn’t before.” I was selective about who I slept with, but no one had made me want more.

“But you didn’t really know those women. And you know Wren.”

“If you’re going to try and talk me out of this, you can’t. It was her idea, Gray, and I think she’s on to something,” I defended myself, now regretting I had opened my big mouth.

Grayson held up his hands. “Whoa. No. I’m not trying to do that. I’m just looking out for you, Beck. I don’t want either of you to get hurt.”

“I know, and I appreciate that. But we’re both adults. We can handle this.”

“Then you do you. I’m here for you. Again, not with the specifics of things, but know you can talk to me about anything else.” He shuddered. “Thinking about Wren is like thinking of one of my sisters, and I want to hurl.”

“Got it. No details.” My alarm beeped on my phone. “I should head out. I need to pick up Zoey and then meet with Wren.”

“Is Zo okay?” Grayson stiffened.

I picked up my suit jacket and pulled it on. “She’s okay. We want to discuss how we can best support her right now. She’s having outbursts in school and we want to get ahead of it.”

“Oh, okay.” His shoulders lowered, and his jaw loosened. “Ruby and I wanted to reach out to you to see if Zo might like to hang out with us. We’d both like to spend more time with her, and I’d like her to get to know Ruby better.”

He stood as I made my way out the door. “I’ll talk to her, but I have a feeling she’ll say yes.”

“Great. Let me know what she says and tell her no pressure. We’re okay if she doesn’t think we’re as cool as Mia.”

I slapped him on the back. “None of us are as cool as Mia.”

My phone dinged with a message from Wren as I walked through the school’s front doors.

Wren

I know you’re on your way. If you get here in the next few minutes, I had to run to the bathroom.

Beckett

Just got here. Take your time.

It was quarter to five, and the club had a few more minutes before everyone dispersed. I ambled down the corridor, admiring the framed student artwork on the walls. It was impressive to see the skill they possessed.

The familiar sound of little girl giggles led me to Wren’s classroom. When I walked through the door, all seven kids were clustered together, looking at an Ipad. No one had noticed me yet.

One child sneezed.

“Ugh, Ava, cover your mouth, or you’ll get it all over my Ipad.”

Ava grumbled. “I did. I can’t help these stupid allergies.”

One of the older girls swiped across the screen.
