“I do not grumble!” she told them as she started writing. “And yes, it makes me feel more secure.”
He grinned.
In less than an hour he’d gone from being completely stressed and worried to smiling and relaxed.
And that was the power of his girl.

“Dada, what is this?” Tamsyn prodded at the green icky stuff on her plate.
After doing her lines, Salem had dressed her in a cute outfit. The skirt was long and pleated. It was white with strawberries all over it. And it had a matching T-shirt and sweater, both with large strawberries on the front of them.
Too cute.
Then she’d gotten out all of her toy soldiers that Alexei had bought her and set up a battle. It had been a tremendous fight but in the end her men had conquered!
But then Daddy had said it was time to eat.
Boring.
And Dada had set up this picnic on the playroom floor. Which sounded like a lot of fun.
If only there wasn’t green stuff on her plate.
“It’s a kale salad,” Roman explained. “Kale is very good for you. It’s good for your bones, your eyes, your immune system. And it’s beneficial if you’re having trouble going to the toilet.”
“Oh, that last bit I believe,” she said, forking some of the kale up. “If anything will make me poop, it’s this stuff.”
“Little one, eat your lunch and stop playing with it. Unless you need Daddy to feed you.”
“Ahh, no.” She didn’t want that. He was likely to make her eat even more of the icky kale.
She still couldn’t bring herself to eat it, though. Instead, she ate her fruit and sandwich.
“You need to take three bites,” Salem told her sternly.
Tamsyn let out a long, drawn-out sigh. Why was Daddy so mean? But she took a bite.
All right. Not so bad. Although she still wasn’t taking more than three bites.
And they were gonna be small bites.
“Done!” She pushed her plate away.
“What do you say to Roman?” Salem asked sternly.
“Thank you, Dada.”
“I don’t know if you really ate enough kale for it to be beneficial.”
“I think it was! I can already feel how beneficial it was.” Her stomach was rebelling.
“Are you all right, Little one?” Salem reached out to place a hand on her forehead.
“Yeah. Just too much kale.”
“Perhaps we should put you down for a nap.”
