“Sorry,” she said, attempting to move away from him. He had her pressed tight to his side.

“Nothing to be sorry for,” he told her. “Unless you’re sorry that you’re so incredible that you just gave me the best orgasm of my life.”

Nope.

She couldn’t say she was sorry about that at all.

“My parents would be thrilled that I have a girlfriend. Although they wouldn’t approve of the sharing part. This would be one of the few things I have done right.”

“I would like to meet your parents one day,” she told him.

With her knife to their throats.

“That won’t ever happen. I’ve long since given up trying to be what they need. I still hear their voices in my head sometimes, telling me I’m not good enough. Not manly enough, smart enough, strong enough.”

She took a chance and placed her hands on either side of his face. “You are all of those things and more. Because you are wonderful, kind, and caring. You’re one of the very best people I know. And you will always be more than enough.”

His smile lit up her world.

And she vowed to make him smile as much as she could.

She’d still like to stab his parents, though. It would do great things for her peace of mind.

“What the fuck happened?” Alexei snarled as he walked up and down the inside of the plane. “What the hell went wrong?”

“Someone tipped him off,” Salem said numbly.

“What?” Alexei whirled on him. “Why would you say that?”

“Why else would all the weapons be gone? Think about it. Why else would he not be there?”

“Maybe the intelligence was wrong.”

Salem turned to Mark Roberts, another member of their team.

“The intelligence wasn’t fucking wrong,” Alexei snarled.

Roberts held up his hands, appearing concerned. He should be. Alexei was on a knife’s edge.

“Sorry, man. It was just a suggestion.”

The other members of their team who were on the plane all looked at Alexei warily.

Salem knew he had to get him to calm down. This was a huge blow to their morale, to their mission and he didn’t know how Riordan was going to react.

Fuck.

What a mess.

“Alexei, sit down. We’re close to landing,” he said calmly. “Everyone, we’ll go straight to headquarters to debrief.”

There were a few groans, but they all nodded.

“This was a major clusterfuck,” Alexei said.

Salem nodded. It really had been.
