He rolled onto his side and she rolled as well so she was facing him.

“Yeah?” he whispered.

“Uh-huh.”

“That’s good because I like you too.”

“And I like being around you,” she added.

He cleared his throat. “Me also.”

“So how about this? If I want time to myself, I tell you. And if I don’t say anything, then you’ll know I want you around. Okay?”

“That sounds perfect to me, darling girl.”

She yawned. “I barely sleep usually. I’m not sure I can remember ever feeling this tired.”

“Maybe your body has decided it’s time to get some rest then.”

She guessed he was right. He lay on his back again and opened the book. Then he started to read. He had the perfect voice.

As her eyes grew heavy, her body weighted down, she started to drift.

His voice stopped and she let out a small murmur of protest. “Don’t stop.”

“Darling girl, you’re basically asleep.”

“Don’t leave. Please.”

She knew that if she was fully awake, she’d probably never have said that. But she was in that state between sleep and wakefulness and she couldn’t guard her words.

“All right. I’ll stay,” he reassured her.

Good.

“Can I hold your hand?” she asked. “Only if you want to. You don’t have to.”

“Here, darling girl.” He held out his hand and she slid her hand into his.

That felt so good.

She was glad he was staying because she didn’t want to be alone.

Alexei slipped into her room.

He shut the door behind him and stepped into the corner. His gaze ran over her sleeping form. Then over the man lying next to her, holding her hand.

That was disgustingly sweet.

He was surprised to find Roman here. He didn’t think the other man would sleep with her this quickly. Although he doubted that Roman had done anything with her like Salem had.

That had shocked him although he knew he’d hidden it well.

Out of the three of them, he hadn’t imagined that Salem would crack first and touch her. A surge of jealousy filled him and he had to fight it back.

Fuck.
