I shrug. “Even so.” I tap the side of my head. “There’s a monster in me. There’s an unhinged part of me that has the potential to snap.”
“It was fucking appropriate given the circumstances, Jax. A monster that comes out to do the right thing, is a monster I want to know.”
“You’re so weird.” I half giggle before my smile falls away altogether.
“Well this weirdo’s opinion of you hasn’t changed, little mouse. So no more thinking there’s something wrong with you.”
His warm lips press to my forehead, and I sink into it, letting him hold us there for a long moment before he pulls back to study my face once again.
“I’m sorry I ran off,” I whisper, needing him to know that I really am regretful for not trusting him to help me.
“Don’t say sorry now.” He grins wickedly. “You know where penance happens here.”
Heat flushes my cheeks at the reminder, and I grin.
“Is that really a thing?”
“With you and me, yes.” He nods, hooking his arm around my back and tugging me onto his lap.
“You like it when I sin.” My words are more of a statement than a question, leaving Devon’s wicked grin to grow.
“Fuck, yes.”
Biting my lip as I grin back, I glide my hands over his shoulders to the back of his neck and admit. “I like sinning for you.”
“Good.” He nips at my lips. “I expect so many more sins, little mouse. Let’s start with some gluttony, hey?”
“Really?” I giggle, as those sinful lips of his trail down my neck.
“Yes, you’re too skinny.” He pulls back, still smirking and gives my arse a swift slap. “Let’s eat.”
I nod, feeling my stomach rumble at that suggestion.
“But first, let’s shower you,” he says right before he lifts me, sliding us out of the bed, and carries me to his bathroom.
He lowers me to the cool tiled floor, and I watch him as he turns the water on in the shower, his hand held out as he tests the temperature.
How did this happen?
Him and me? Me and him?
It’s so bizarre to think I only met him a few days ago, yet I feel like I’ve known him for years.
What a strange thought.
There’s still so much Idon’t know about him, but what I do know is probably the most important thing.
He may be the devil, but he’s a good man. To me, anyway. And I guess to the people of this town, if what I’m piecing together is true.
“What are you staring at?” he asks playfully, eyeing me as he holds his hand out for me to go to him.
I don’t even hesitate, shooting him a grin as I pull his t-shirt off me.
“Who dressed me?” I ask, having no idea what happened after I blacked out at the facility.
“It was a team effort.” He winks, and my brows hitch.
“A team effort? Explain.”
