‘Do you wanna tell me who the fuckers were that tried to take me out at the farmhouse?’

“I’m working on finding out.” Griffin sighs. “Like I told Crow, I have my suspicions that it’s the Carnal Unicorn Secret Society.”

I frown and tap out a response, holding it up again.

‘When did you speak to Jared?’

“I went to see him in the hospital yesterday. I needed to make sure there were no questions as to why he was driving my car. I told his parents that I’ve recently hired him as a driver and had asked him to test out the car.”

Shit. I hadn’t even considered that. I was too distraught with making sure Jared was ok. Thank fuck Griffin helped to cover up the blurred lines.

Cynthia and Will still have no idea what happened since I did my usual thing and didn’t tell them shit. The problem is, I feel bad about that. They are such nice people. They deserve an explanation as to why I wasn’t home in my bed, and why I was in a car with Jared outside the Fox Pines town limits.

They have been patient with me through all of this. Surely their patience will run out soon. They can’t be that good, can they?

I give Griffin a nod and then tap out another question.

‘Carnal Unicorn has a secret society?’

Griffin nods. “So it seems. I only found out yesterday, and if they are suspicious that their members are being targeted, then it makes sense they would try to intervene.”

Shit. This isn’t good. People like that have a lot to lose, which makes them dangerous.

‘They will try again, then. They will try to protect their secrets by any means possible.’

“Yes.”

This just got ten times harder.

‘Do you have any names yet?’

“I do. I have a list. I will schedule the jobs for you, but you need to be prepared that you’re going to be busy before you up and leave.”

I shake my head and tap out a response, showing Griffin as his woman clangs around in the kitchen.

‘No. Don’t schedule anything for me. Print up the information. I will get the jobs done my way and without a trail. It’s likely they’ve hacked into our messages to get the locations of the jobs. Either that, or you have a mole in the crew.’

Griffin grunts. “If I have a mole in my crew, then they will die a very slow and fucking painful death when I figure out who it is.”

My eyes flick to Aggie, who grins with excitement at Griffin’s comment as she places a plate of croissants on the table before returning to the kitchen.

Jesus, she really is made for him.

Nodding, I tap out another message and hold it up.

‘Print up everything you have so far, and while you’re at it, get me all the names and details of those working in the Kerr crew.’

Griffin’s brows shoot up. “You wanna take them out?”

I shrug.‘Maybe. Taking them out will fast track your takeover of the area, won’t it?’

Griffin eyes me suspiciously. “It will.”

‘I’ll take them out if you release Jared from any commitments to you and your family.’

Griffin’s brows shoot high. “This is a negotiation?” he asks, and I nod.

“So you’ll clean out all the cobwebs, and in return, I release Jared from working for me?”
