“Yes,” Grim cried.
“Love you.” Casanova took a deep breath. “Secret tunnel to the warehouse. Find the entrance. They have Rose. Sorry, I failed you.”
His eyes closed, and Grim fell to the ground and cried. He still had a pulse, and Ginger hoped the ambulance would make it in time.
The flashing lights stopped next to them, and paramedics shoved him to the side. Grim pushed her way into the ambulance, and they drove off.
Carter had killed his team years ago and now he’d taken the one woman he loved.
Xavier strode over and brushed a tear from his eye. He hadn’t stopped to think about the second body in the street. Xavier lost one of his own men.
Lucas’s voice came over the comm. “They disabled the tracker on the van, but they didn’t get the second one I added. The device worked, boss.”
“Where?” was the only word from Xavier’s mouth.
With Grim gone, the operation was dangerous, heading in with just Ginger and Marcus, but from Xavier’s determined look, the man would go to war even if that meant he had to fight Carter alone.
“You’re standing over it.”
Ginger looked down, confused. “We haven’t moved.”
Fuck, they weren’t going to find the location. “No, it’s underground. They drove the van twenty feet, turned right, and drove down. But that means they have eyes on you and are watching, boss. You need to regroup.”
Xavier pulled the comm from his ear and threw it. “I’m going. Come with me or stay, but that fucker’s going down tonight. We’ve spent years chasing after him. If we regroup there is no saying when we will find him, and the fucker has to pay for what he did.”
Ginger didn’t need to be asked to take down Carter. Marcus grunted and followed along behind them. Lucas sent a text with the location of where the van drove.
“Let’s do this,” Xavier said, as they stepped through the large open garage door.
Like the other, the warehouse was empty except for the ramp going down. Ginger walked behind Xavier down a long path until light appeared and with each step, it grew brighter. When they reached the bottom and stepped down, a loud bang sounded and the concert ramp raised behind them, locking them under ground.
They’d stepped into a trap with no cell service.
“Boss owes me big time.” Lucas’s voice came through the comm. “Okay. I’m in their system. The phone I designed for Xavier can’t lose service from blockers, and it’s transmitting the technology to the comms. But I’m guessing boss man threw his comm, so make sure Xavier doesn’t break his phone. Also, I called in backup, but not sure they can get to you guys.”
“Hello, Gus, or is it Xavier now? Hard to keep up with the names.” Carter’s voice cut through the damp air.
Ginger couldn’t locate where the fucker stood. He did spot at least eight men holding guns.
“Looks like we have everyone except Grim here. Is she mad I hurt the poor boy? He’s weak anyway, and she deserves so much more, just like her sister. Speaking of Sarah, how long has it been since you saw her, Xavier?”
Ginger hadn’t seen her in years. Sarah was a woman they tried to protect and hide from Carter. His teammate Nic promised him he hid her somewhere safe. So Ginger assumed all these years she was still in hiding. He never looked for her because he didn’t want her to be found by Carter. It wasn’t until he met Grim had he learned the woman he helped years ago was her sister, but he wanted her to stay safe, so he kept up the lie that she was dead up until a few months ago when he told his team.
A woman screamed, and Ginger turned to the side to find a row of clear glass cells. There were a total of six all filled with different people, one Sarah and another one was Rose. His eyes connected with Rose’s, and he hated to see the tears streaming down her face.
“Are you ready to play a game?” Carter said from the darkness.
Sarah was on her knees inside of the glass cells, cradling her belly.
“Stop with the bullshit,” Xavier said, his tone sharp. “Why not step out and fight me like a man instead of a pussy?”
“Here’s the difference between you and me.” Carter paused. “I got the girl, you stood by and watched. Can you see she’s pregnant? Want to guess who the father is?”
Xavier stepped forward.
“Don’t move,” Carter snapped. “This is my game, and I want to play. If you take another step, I’ll let the gas go and kill one of them. Want to play roulette and see which one dies? Well, I might spare Rose since Brittany helped me get her here. I thought she played me for years, but she is a heartless bitch.”
Brittany stepped out of the shadows in a tight red dress, matching heels, and her hair was twisted up into a bun. Her heels clicked against the marble floor until she stopped next to a large object covered with a sheet. She tapped her heel on the floor.
