“Amber. Baby. What were you going to tell Daddy?”
His tone was playful, and it helped put her at ease. But only a little.
“Ugh! Okay… here goes. Are you ready?”
“Yes, cutie. You can tell me anything.”
After a heavy sigh, she spilled it. “I’ve never… done… you know…it… before.” She forced herself to toss the pillow aside and sit up. There was no sense hiding now. “I’m totally a virgin.”
That devilish look remained on Sawyer’s handsome face.
“I just always had bigger stuff going on. And I wanted the time to be right. The people who tried to get me to?—”
“Babygirl. You don’t owe me an explanation,” he said softly. “Maybe you were just waiting on Daddy. And now you found him.”
She smiled. “You don’t think I’m pathetic for being the twenty-six-year-old woman who’s never even fooled around with a guy?”
“No, sweetpea. Far from it.”
She thought about his response for a moment as she searched his eyes for any hint of insincerity. Finally, she decided he meant every word he said. Sawyer wasn’t the type of guy to lie.
A grin spread across her face as she told him, “Seriously, you don’t understand. I’ve never done anything.” She giggled. “One time me and a boy from my foster home kind of kissed behind the shed in the backyard. But that’s it.”
Sawyer lightly caressed her face, looking lovingly at her as if appraising a rare treasure.
“Do you know you’re adorable?” he asked.
She giggled. “I knowyou thinkI’m adorable.”
He kissed her forehead again and then moved his lips to hers. He nibbled on them a moment before saying, “Don’t worry, babygirl. Daddy will teach you everything.”
Her stomach flipped an excited somersault. Her panties were absolutely drenched now. The kiss Sawyer gave her nearly took her already shallow breath away.
She groaned when he stood up, reached for her hands, and pulled her from the bed.
“But it’ll have to wait. Right now, you need to eat so I can get you to work. Come on, honey. Let’s go.”
Reluctantly nodding, Amber left the bedroom with Daddy following behind her. She yelped and laughed when he playfullysmacked her bottom and said, “Just you wait, little girl. You’re in for quite a lesson later.”
I sure am, she thought.
And I can’t freaking wait!
CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
Amber was enjoying her new job at the café but couldn’t help her mind from wandering back to the events of that morning.
And to Daddy.
She finished clearing a table of left-behind dishes and giggled as she silently repeated that name.
Daddy.
How had her life changed so dramatically in such a short amount of time? She carried the tray full of dishes behind the counter where she saw Honey and Jazzie sitting on a stool against the wall. Marsha had known Amber might be a bit nervous starting a new job, so she’d suggested her stuffies spend the day at the diner with her.
It was working.
“See, guys? I’ve always said that if you remain positive and work hard, luck has a way of turning around!”
