“I know,” He told me assuredly, as if it was old news and not something I’d never said to him before.
“How in the hell would you know that?” I asked and then promptly blew my nose again. We had come a long way from me not wanting to walk across a room naked in front of him to my utter lack of care about what he saw. I also blamed that on the pregnancy.
“You told me.”
“I told you?” I let the question hang in the air for a minute, even though I saw him nod his head in answer. “When in the hell did I do that?”
“Remember that night you got really drunk and I had to pick you up from that biker bar?”
“Yeah,” I dragged the word out slowly as I attempted to piece together where he was going with that.
“You had a lot to say on the ride home before you passed out.”
“Oh!” I hid my face by looking out the window but my face heated from my cheeks to the tip of my ears with embarrassment. “Did I say how long I’d been in love with you.”
“No,” His answer sounded a bit more like a question, in that I could tell he wanted to hear more. When I didn’t add on, he decided to come out and ask. “Do you want to elaborate?”
“Not really,” I huffed. I was surprised when he didn’t push for the answer, but then again, my husband wasn’t one to force things. He didn’t mind waiting for them to come in their own time, and I loved that about him.
Flynn rubbedthe sweet honeysuckle scent into my belly as I laid back on a stack of pillows on our bed. “Are you going to do this every night?”
“Yes,” He answered.
I moaned and aimed a sweet smile his way. “You’re the best husband I’ve ever had.”
“I’m the only husband you’ve ever had.”
“You set the bar pretty high for yourself though.” He shook his head at me, but I could see that he loved my answer. “You still owe me a date night. That disastrous family dinner doesn’t count.”
“Okay, where would you like to go? We’ll have date night tomorrow.”
“You don’t have to work late?”
“Sweetheart, I won’t be working late nights again for the foreseeable future.”
“Why not?”
“You’re pregnant. I want to be here for you as much as possible. When you’re no longer pregnant, we’ll have two infants at home who require so much attention that they’ll need both of us on the job. When they grow to be a bit bigger, we’ll have two toddlers throwing tantrums about snacks, toys, and whatevertoddler show they’re into. You’re going to need a break from the chaos, so I want to be there. We’re also going to have date nights, because we need to be therewitheach other, and not just for one another.”
“How did I get so damn lucky?” I asked him. My husband shrugged his shoulders as he finished buttering up my belly. “All done?”
“For now,” He whispered.
“Then why don’t you come up here, so I can make out with my hot husband?”
“Oh yeah?”
“Wait!” I called out as he started to crawl up the bed toward me.
“What?”
“You should totally do that naked.”
My husband humored me and stood there on the bed to undress instead of getting down on the floor like a normal human. I laughed as he took off each piece of clothing and did a silly little dance and hip thrust before slinging each piece around in circles and letting them land wherever.
“You’re cleaning the mess up,” I warned.
“Worth it to see you smile like that.”
