“Oh, my vag feels like you beat it for insulting your Mamaw’s potato salad, but I’m loving it.”

I howled with laughter. “You’re ridiculous.” I tossed the quilt over her head.

Giggling, she pulled it off, turning her long hair into a static mess.

“Did it snow?” she asked.

That’s a good question.

“Ya know, I don’t know. I haven’t checked.”

With an eyeroll, she jumped out of bed and darted to the window. She shrieked excitedly, “Dak! Look!”

I joined her at the window. The backyard, covered in a heavy blanket of snow, looked like something out of a snow globe after someone furiously shakes it up. Thick snowflakes swirled through the air, sticking to everything that they landed on. The scenery was absolutely beautiful.

“Perfect day to stay in bed and watch Christmas movies if the damn power was working.”

She looked at me like I’d lost my mind. “Or, ya know, go play in the snow.”

“You want to play in the snow?” I questioned.

“Everyone wants to play in the snow, you amoeba.”

What did she just call me?

“That’s a…weird insult.”

“Ehh, it conveyed my point,” she defended as she stared out the window. I slapped her ass.

“I may have mentioned it but –”

“I know, I know,” she interrupted with an eyeroll. “I’m cuter with something in my mouth.”

I walked back over to the bed. “As long as you know.”

“I’m sure you’ll remind me again if I forget.”

I laughed. “You can always count on me.”

She twisted her hair into a messy bun, her gaze still fixed out the window.

“I’m going downstairs. Do you want breakfast?” I asked.

“I’ll go with you,” she offered, closing the curtain.

Someone must have forgotten we have company.

“You do remember that fuckface one and two are down there?”

Her eyes clouded over. “Fuck. I forgot.”

I nodded. “I thought you might have. I’ll go; you get back in bed.”

Looking as if she had lost her best friend, I guess because she really had, she crawled back into bed. The animosity I had for Jace and Cassie grew significantly as I took in the look on her face.

Yeah, they have got to fuckin’ go.
