“I think we earned a nap, Lena Loo.” He stroked my bare back.
“I think so, too.”
Because I really want to do all that again when I wake up.
Dakota
The dimmest of morning glow creeped into the room.
Lena was curled up next to me, snoring like a grown ass man.
Girl, you got that sloppy toppy sexpertise and that sleep apnea.
The fire had been reduced to nothing but a thick layer of glowing ashes.
And yet somehow, I’m still snug as a bug in a rug.
On the nightstand, aCreek’s Edge Candle Co.flickered, reminding me that I was careless last night in more ways than one.
What was more dangerous, fuckin’ my best ex’s best friend or leaving lit candles burning without supervision?
The thought of Cassie forced me to remember that she and Jace were downstairs. Careful not to wake up Lena, I climbed out of bed. The floor was freezing underneath my bare feet, and the cabin air was chilling to the bone.
At least my boxers should be dry.
Snagging them from the brick hearth, I was relieved to find that they were stiff as a board, but definitely dry. I slid them on quietly, doing my best not to interrupt the sawing of logs that was occurring on the bed. Looking around the room, I realized I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. There was nothing to do but… nothing.
I need to fix this piss poor excuse of a fire.
Realistically, I knew I needed to clean all the ashes out before I added more wood, but I didn’t want her to wake up cold.
Using the fire poker, I broke up the rest of the kindling logs. The ashes flamed up for a moment before returning to a deep glow. I added a few small pieces of wood and fat lighter, bringing the weak, warm glimmer to life. It wouldn’t do much before the surrounding ashes suffocated the flow of air, but it would knock a little bit of the chill out of the air.
In the words of the great Major Payne, it’s still a shit sandwich, it’s just not a soggy one.
Behind me, a sleepy voice spoke up.“Not much for sleepin’ in?”
“I didn’t want you to wake up cold,” I told her. “It was cold in here.”
“Well, ain’t you sweet?”
I laughed. “Don’t tell anyone.”
She gave me the scout’s honor sign. “I see you found your drawers.” I looked down automatically.
“I did. Do you want yours?”
She hesitated for a moment before nodding her head. I tossed her the bra and panties. Standing up in bed, she took her time putting them on.
Well, good mornin’.
“How are you feelin’?” I asked her as I sat down at the foot of the bed.
“I feel incredible!” She pulled the sheet around her.
Why does hearing that make the entire morning better?
‘Glad to hear it. You’re not sore?”
