EPILOGUE

“Betty, I really can’thave any more!”

The older woman rolled her eyes and slid another pastry on Chloe’s plate. “Nonsense, child you are no bigger than a minute.”

Sarah held her plate out patting her rounding stomach, “Eating for two, I don’t mind taking whatever you have left!”

Betty smiled indulgently at Sarah and gave her the tray to take as many crème filled pastries as she wished to. “I am just going to run along and make sure that The Head Commander has eaten his noon day meal.”

“They call that a quickie on earth,” Sarah said between bites of goodness.

Chloe choked on her tea, “Sarah! They are practically my in-laws!”

“They still have sex,” Sarah said practically, “Right Betty?”

The older woman winked at Chloe and Sarah, “Not dead yet, quickie? Is that what you called it?”

“No!” Chloe moaned, and Sarah nodded enthusiastically.

As the door slid closed the two women sank into companionable silence.

“You know,” Sarah said after a time, “I think I’ve gained fifteen pounds since they sucked me up here.”

Chloe snorted, “You are pregnant. I am pretty sure they recommend more than that on earth. And your husband is the size of Paul Bunyan.”

Sarah’s smile grew into a knowing smirk, “Yeah, the big sexy beast is all mine. I marked him good.”

Chloe raised her brow, “Is this another sex filled talk that is going to make me cringe? Because I just want to warn you. I sometimes mark Zack as well. My nails are wicked long right now.”

Sarah laughed throwing her head back and tucking her feet up on a small stool in front of her. They had begun to swell occasionally, and Axel fretted when she didn’t take care of herself.

“No, I am talking about the life marks,” Sarah leaned forward and whispered, “Where did you get him?”

Chloe unzipped her uniform and yanked her tank off to show Sarah the words across her back.

Sarah sat there for a moment stunned.

“What does it mean?” Sarah asked, and Chloe explained about the scripture from the bible.

“Chloe, that is truly beautiful,” Sarah stood and traced the letters with her fingertips. “I love that he marked you with something that would remind you of earth. What is on Zack?”

Chloe frowned, “I just showed you.”

“You mean, you and Zack? Your markings match?”

Chloe nodded putting her top back on and zipping up her uniform. “Is that weird?”

Sarah had a concerned look on her face, “No. It’s actually really touching and now I am worried about me and Axel.”

Chloe huffed out a laugh, “You are crazy, what are you talking about? I have seen your markings they just barely covered by your uniform. Shit woman, if he was a dog marking his territory I would say that there isn’t an inch that he didn’t touch!”

Sarah’s lips twitched, “That is true. Stupid Neanderthal.”

She said it with such love and devotion that Chloe knew in some convoluted way, Sarah meant it as a compliment.

“Tell me,” Chloe encouraged, “Where did you mark him?”

“You don’t know?” Sarah said excitement lighting her face.
