Slade entered first, getting hit by our baby girl as he opened the garage door. The bag he carried dropped to the floor as he hauled her into his arms.

“Slaaddeee!” Mia squealed so loud it hurt, but he didn’t wince or react, used to it.

“What smells good?” Slade gave her a sloppy kiss and grazed his beard on her cheek to taunt her.

“We made lasagna.” She giggled and pushed at his face to make him stop scratching her skin, only serving to increase his bristled greeting.

“Did you make dinner? You’re so talented.” My mates heaped on the praise recently to show her how special she was to them.

Slade moved them out of the doorway to let Alaric and Zethan into the hallway.

Mia leaned back to tell him, “You can’t have any garlic bread. It’s too good to share.”

“I’ll steal some when you’re not looking.” Slade grinned at me, enjoying having two ladies to bait. Devil.

“Nooo!!!” Mia playfully hit his shoulder. “It’s mine and Castor’s and you can’t have any!”

“What about me?” Alaric pretended to be sad.

“Nope.” Mia shook her head three times to hammer it in. “Zethan can’t have any either. He’ll give some to Slade.”

Zethan huffed and played along. “It tastes too good to share with Slade.”

“Liar, liar pants on fire,” Mia sassed him, and he laughed, leaning in to kiss her, playfully growling at the same time.

“I’m a superhero,” Slade teased, carrying her to the dining room. “I need to eat lots of food to save the world.”

Mia giggled again. “You are not.”

“Am too.” Slade put her down in protest.

“I’m hiding that garlic bread.” Mia giggled and raced off to make good on her promise.

He grunted, enjoying the banter.

“Saving the world, my ass, Mr. Vincent.” I hooked my fingers in his cut to draw him down. “More like burning it down and going down in the history books as a villain.”

“Just like my god.” Damn, those dimples always got me.

His fiery kiss served as a reminder of what he would do to Colton for menacing his family, and I filled with a sick sense of defeat.

I kept it low-key. Calm. Fun. Not a word of what lay ahead. I didn’t want my fiery man to lose his cool on the eve of the largest battle he ever fought. Hiding my unrest took all my energy and self-control, and fragments of it sometimes spilled onto the bond.

Slade cracked a hand on my ass and growled, “You left the club today before I had my way with you.”

I laughed and shook my head. My libido took a hit these last couple of days after the news of Slade and Zethan’s confrontation with Colton.

I returned fire on Slade’s ass with a harsh crack. “Stop thinking with your dick.”

He grunted, nipped my lower lip, and promised, “Tonight, you’re gonna dance on our laps and give us a striptease.”

Goddess. Hot and violent pulses fired up my clit. Possibly our few remaining nights together. The sense of defeat that brought on doused the flames and froze my pussy.

Protectiveness flared in Slade’s eyes, and he latched onto my chaos, cupping the back of my neck. Throat too tight for words, I shook my head at him, not wanting to venture down that devastating road.

“Sllaaddde, come and help me,” Mia demanded from the kitchen.

“Love you, sugar.” Slade left me with a heartbreaking kiss full of promise to destroy Colton Raine and win this war.
