“Jagger, I told you, I’m okay. I’m not going to faint again.”

He shakes his head. “It’s not that. I’m just wondering. How did it feel seeing Calvin again?”

“Calvin,” I sigh deeply. “I think my fight-or-flight instinct kicked in as soon as I recognized him. I didn’t feel unsafe, more like angry and disgusted.”

“You were married. You had a life together, a daughter.”

I give Jagger a troubled look. “You want to know if I have any feelings left for him.”

“Yeah.”

“No. None. Nothing left,” I reassure him, my hands resting on his broad chest. “Jagger, my love for that man died years ago when I realized what a monster he was. He pulled the wool over my eyes on so many things, I felt like the ultimate idiot. I don’t think Calvin is actually capable of loving anybody. Maybe Kyra, but even that’s got an asterisk attached to it.”

“He never reached out from prison, did he?”

I lower my gaze. “He tried a couple of times. I rejected both calls and blocked the prison number altogether.”

“He should have gotten the hint then,” Jagger says.

“You showed him that tonight.” I giggle, my gaze softening as I peer deep into his eyes. “You saved me, Jag. You know that?”

He nods once. “Felt nice. Knight in shining armor.”

“Riding that magnificent steed.”

“Come here,” he says and pulls me closer. I straddle him, laughing as we kiss. He makes me feel soft, his hands roaming up and down my body, fingers searching for the hem of my shirt. “When I saw him grab you, I nearly lost my mind.”

“No, you did the right thing,” I tell him. “You protected me. You kept your word. All the way through and when it mattered the most.”

“I’ll admit, I was a little scared when I realized what was going on.”

“Scared?”

That’s a word I never thought I’d hear coming out of Jagger’s mouth. For as long as I’ve known him, he’s been a beacon of light and bravery, bold and maybe even reckless at times.

“Scared I might lose you. I don’t know. It was a crazy thought that crossed my mind for only a second that Calvin might rope you back in,” Jagger says.

I kiss him again deeply. “Feel this?” I ask, guiding his hand over my chest.

“It’s one of my favorite parts about you,” he jokes.

“Not my boobs,” I laugh. “But this…”

We sit still for a moment. I wait until he feels my frantic heartbeat. Our eyes meet, and the entire world comes to a sudden, decisive halt.

“Yeah, I feel it.”

“It beats like this for you, Jag. For you and Knox and Diesel. I never thought it would be possible, but here we are. Calvin is in the past, part of a lie I told myself would work. The only good thing that came out of that horrible mess is Kyra. She’s the only reason I don’t regret any of it. Just her.”

“It made you stronger, Robyn. A hard lesson, learned the hard way.”

“True. But ultimately, it led me to you and the guys. Everything we are today was built on who we were yesterday. Calvin hasn’t changed at all. He’s still garbage.” I smile down at him. “So, no, Jagger. I feel nothing for that man. Not love, not longing, nothing. You…” I pause as his fingers splay, and he kneads my breast through the shirt and bra. “You, on the other hand…”

A grin slits across his face, making my skin tingle all over. “Losing your words there, darlin’?”

“You’re making it hard for me to focus.”

“And you’re making me hard—period.”
