“Take your time, let’s get through this and we will be here when you need us,” he said.

I peeked around the corner to see his hands cupping her face.

“We will always be here,” he said, kissing her forehead and stepping away from her. “You're not alone.”

“I’m scared?—”

“You don’t have to be scared, Mamacita.” He raised her chin to look at him. “We won’t let anything happen to you. We will do everything we can for you. You have to know we care for you.”

She nodded before looking down at her phone.

“I know, but it's just not that simple,” she said, walking away, leaving the condo.

Ro stared at the door as I studied his profile.

“Let’s go now,” he said, knowing I was there. “I want to ease her fears and the only way we can do that is if we take care of this problem.”

“Agreed,” I said, walking back to my room to get dressed.

We pulled up to the address Ro’s hacker friend had given us. It was a modest home in a suburban area. His car was in the driveway and we scoped out the area for a moment.

“I think you should stay in the car,” I said, unbuckling my seat belt. “That way you can let me know if anyone is coming.”

“Fuck no, Hunt.” He unbuckled his seat belt. “There is no reason to leave me.”

“Ro, if this goes south, I don’t want you taking the heat,” I said, turning to him. “You could ruin your career and well… my years are numbered. If I have to retire, I’m ok with that.”

“I would give up my entire career just to make sure both of you are safe,” he said immediately. “I love hockey, but if it means your safety and my peace of mind, then I would let my career go up in flames without flinching.”

Dammit, why was Ro so fucking romantic.

“That's the thing, you don’t have to,” I said, touching his cheek softly. “I’m willing to let it burn if it means you and her are safe. I’ve thought about retiring anyway.”

“No, we do this together. We are going to win tonight’s game, and then we will go home to her and make sure she knows how much she means to us,” he said, getting out of the car with a folder I hadn’t noticed before.

Stubborn little shit.

I got out of the car, quickly following him to the house.

“Dammit, Ro, you can’t be reckless,” I growled.

“This isn’t reckless, this is me protecting what ismine,” he growled back, knocking on the door.

The door immediately opened, and Joshua Nott stood there in a suit looking irritated.

“Joshua Nott?” Ro smiled.

“Uh… I think you have the wrong address,” he snapped

“Nope we have the right address,” I said. “We need to talk.”

“I’m a busy man and?—”

“We will make it quick,” Ro said, walking through the door, making him back up. He was shorter than us by a few inches so he had to look up at us.

“You need to leave before I call the cops,” he said, faking confidence.

“No need because if you call them, I will show them this,” Ro said, pulling out a photo of a woman.
